Flow of information within social media is at its ultimate high at this time. It’s no doubt that web sites including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn still capitalize the social media market.
Billions of hours are spent each month on social media websites.
I personally believe it’s safe to say that the number of hits on these social media web sites is during working hours. It is at work we are constantly in front of a computer with an internet connection to browse these web sites. I can say that when I get home, I don’t want to even think about rebooting my laptop. Although I’m not an active Facebook user, I am shocked at how many updates I receive from my connections. Even on Linked In, which is most commonly used as a “professional” form of social media, with resumes of millions of people literally at your finger tips is amazing.
Social media is now affecting how we do business via blogs, forming groups and events, linking with strategic networks…etc. Can the workplace deny these social media networks while these are so embedded in our lives?
If an employee spends one hour each day at work on Facebook, multiply this with the number of users and think about how much this is costing a given company. How do companies capitalize on this? You can now join or create groups in the name of your organization. Building associations with other group members, you can now create discussions, issues, and events in order to reach out to your colleagues. This is now a new form of company communication. The best part: it’s free to use.
These are my thoughts although I’m curious as to what you think.
Thanks,
Neha
