Sourcing Methodology Part 3 – Scraping!!

This is part 3 of the Methodology, Sourcing. In part 2 we talked about Sourcing, now that we have that done it’s time to Scrape the results.

Scraping is the act of getting the info from one source to a reusable, and mobile source such as a CSV, Txt, Excel etc. Doing this makes it easy to upload to your ATS or CRM as well as use tools to enhance the data you have.

There are many tools, or methods you can use to scrape data, and we will go through some of them here.

One method is simply print screen the data and save as a picture. However for this to work you need to be able to get the data out of the picture and put into a more usable format, such as a CSV, or Excel. One tool that you can use to do this is One Note. Simply open the print screen picture in one note, then right click and select copy data form picture and then paste into a CSV or Spreadsheet.

Another method is to copy the data by right clicking and highlighting the data and then copying it and pasting into a CSV or Excel or Word. Now this method can be easy but the data usually comes out in an un organized way.

Lastly you can use a scraping tool such as Dataminer, Instant Scraper, Scrape Similar, and many others. Most of these have a Chrome Extension as well. They all will scrape the info you want and produce a very well organized excel or CSV version of the data that is ready to be enhanced or uploaded.

So now you have the quick and easy, down and dirty part 3, sourcing. Including several methods to scrape. Next week step 4 Enhancing.
