Workhound.co.uk Announces that 141,242 New Jobs Created in the UK Last Week

Demand Rising in Certain Key Sectors

London, United Kingdom (1 December 2008) - Workhound.co.uk, the UK's largest search engine for jobs, released today, it's data on new job creation and trends in the UK. The company tracks real-time recruitment advertising which it believes is a strong indicator of future job growth and for changes in the rate of unemployment. Unfortunately, this data is showing that unemployment will trend negatively for the next two quarters.

"For the last 18 months, we've tracked about 35k new jobs created per day. This seems to be the replacement rate needed to keep unemployment flat," stated Howard Lee, the company's CEO. Continued Mr. Lee, "We are now seeing 21.5k jobs created daily. Coupled with more job cuts, new job creation is falling well behind job elimination and will lead to higher unemployment in this quarter."

Although job growth has slowed, Mr. Lee pointed out that new positions are still being created. "In the past many of these jobs went unfilled even though there were qualified applicants. Job search engines, make it possible to check thousands of job sites from a single source and can help speed up the employment recovery process."
