I was looking at a number of ways for recruiters to automatically post jobs and other content onto Twitter, LinkedIn and all the other social channels. There are lots of ways to do this and it is really very simple to set this up. I've put together a short video demonstrating how to use the free version of Hootsuite to schedule posts and also connect to an RSS feed to do this automatically.

While I'm using Hootsuite to automate and schedule my content it is very easy to see how this can be done to automatically post jobs directly from your own web site. To do this you'll need to have an RSS feed from you site and simply drop this into Hootsuite as I have done in the video for my own blog. I develop web interfaces for customers of my own recruitment software system Intelligence and we're happy to set up for free as part of our normal support.

As I say there are plenty of other ways to do this. I'd be really interested to hear what other people are doing and what works best

Hi Shane:

Great post and video.  I personally don't love HootSuite; their owl.ly native URL shortner is a pain to track (in my experience) with other campaigns if you're using the same URL for bit.ly or other native shorteners, but my biggest problem is that you can only schedule on the 5s and the 10s.  That's probably a viable option for most, but as they increase their market share you can actually see huge influxes of B2B content during these times, so it makes standing out much harder if you're scheduling or engaging with content. I also think that their dashboarding and analytics are not very impressive or intuitive.  I myself use TweetDeck primarily for the monitoring/engagement component of social networks; it's owned by Twitter, so am unconcerned about having to push everything through a third party API (which, by the way, leads me to worry about HootSuite's long term viability - as Twitter IPOs, there's no way that they're going to let HootSuite continue to make $ off their API when they've got a competitive product).  I use SproutSocial for scheduling and reporting and highly recommend it - best $20 a month you can spend on social.

Appreciate your sharing this tool with our community and think that it's definitely a great option for anyone who's looking to get started in social or just interested in what's working with social recruiting.

Thanks Matt,

I haven't heard of SproutSocial, it must be good if you're prepared to pay for it.

I believe that HootSuite does allow you to choose from a number of URL shorteners so you're not stuck with owl.ly. Of course you could always shorten your URLs somewhere else and then use that to create your post. I have experimented with creating posts in a LinkedIn update then using that shortened URL in Twitter. Apparently LinkedIn will then rate my post highter as a result of the increased traffic. I'm not sure I've seen any major effect in doing this but that is possible because I have a bigger LinkedIn Network than I have on Twitter.
