@SourceCon Part 3: Speed & Quality: How to Win at Both

So this is the 2nd presentation of the conference. Titled “Speed & Quality: How to Win at Both” by John Vlastelica. John begins talking about his 10 keys to delivering speed and quality.

1. Define the work before you define the person

2. Get Calibrated and pre-close HM

3. Take Control of “Speed”

4. Push Back on Unrealistic HM

5. Drive Alignment

6. Facilitate Debrief (where the real hiring bar is defined)

7. Study and improve conversion ratios

8. Engage HM in sourcing

9. Engage HM in process

10. Diagnose Aged Reqs

Why define the work before you define the person? Basically, it is to ensure you know what you are looking for, and helping your HM know what they are really looking for.

Why Calibrate and pre-close your HM? It will improve you ratios, and create a better working relationship with your HM. This is all done mainly in the intake meeting.

Why take control of speed? Its very simple to set and manage expectations of our HM. We set the base of what ASAP and Fast means.

Why push back on unrealistic HMs? For one because we need to manage expectations, and also we need to ensure our HMs realize the cost of having these unrealistic expectations. These costs usual come in one of 3 areas; Cost (money), Speed(how quick we can fill the position), and Quality.

Why Must we Drive Alignment? This is pretty simple if we are not all aligned, meaning if the sourcer, recruiters, HM,  etc are not all on the same page bad things happen.

Why should we invest in Debriefs? Again simple we need to debrief to go over wins, looses, and to recalibrate if need be.

Why should we study and improve conversion Ratios? Again simple better ratios equal quicker hires,  less time spent, less money etc.

Why should we engage HMs in sourcing? This is the biggest no-brainer in the history of recruiting. First, the HM probably know a lot of the people we are looking for. Second an email or call from them carries more weight than from a recruiter. Example Linkedin inmails from an HM get a 3-5X better response rate. Enough said.

Why Should we engage HMs in the process? Simple it's their hire.

Why should we be amazing at Diagnosing aged reqs? Simple the sooner we figure out why they are aged the sooner we can fix it and get it hired.

To sum it up
