When hiring for a digital marketing role its crucial you hire someone who knows what they are doing, here are three important questions to ask to help you hire correctly.

 1.    Ask about their experiences

Ask the candidates about their experiences, find out how many years of hands on experience they have and really get a feel for who they have worked for before. Do they know the ropes in regards to the industry you work in can they adapt easily or will they need lots of training?

 2.    Are they a Multi-channel marketer

There are lots of aspects to digital marketing; it can be very difficult to succeed just using one channel.

When hiring for a digital marketing role it’s important to hire someone that has experience using a variety of channels. The main channels in digital marketing are:

It’s also good to have a strong understanding of web design and UI/UX and also coding and web development.

Hiring someone who just specialises in one channel could prove difficult unless that is what you desire. Different channels help achieve different goals and some channels are better at achieving things than others.

For instance email marketing although being an old outbound marketing method is still a really effective inbound marketing methods and is very popular in the digital marketing world. Email marketing is a great way to sell products, re-market and keep subscribers up-to-date but in order to build a decent email list you need to be able to drive traffic maybe through social media or SEO and also give users a reason to sign up or register to your list i.e. content marketing.

 3.    Set them a task

After a first initial telephone or face-to-face meeting it might be a good idea to set the candidates a task.

Ask them to make up a company and design and explain a marketing campaign that would fit the businesses KPI’s and goals, you could even ask them to use your own company and get more of an idea on how the candidate would use the different channels effectively, what content they would produce and how they would drive traffic to the website or generate a strong social media following.
