In part 7 of my Sourcecon posts we will discuss the things that came from the Shelly Sandberg track.

First up Ben Gotkin and Sourcing Metrics Working Session. At the beginning was nan introduction to ATAP which is the Association of Talent Acquisition Professionals. A great organization trying to standardize things within the staffing world. This includes Metrics. The key measuring points for staffing as a whole is; Cost, Time, and Quality. Of course there are variables such as; Passive Vs Active, Hard to fill, emerging skills, location, etc.

Next up Will Maurer covering Culture. Gallup polls says there are 3 types of employees, Engage, Not Engaged, Actively disengaged. Companies with employees in the engaged area have; less absenteeism, fewer safety issues, fewer product issues, higher productivity and profitability.

Kristi Wawro talked about Launching a High Impact Sourcing Function. This was about here journey in transforming Disney’s sourcing function. She talks about looking back to study historical performance to see were things went right and wrong and to work on what went wrong and improve on what went right. This includes; Technology, Processes, expectations, and more.

Last but not least was Alaina Rivas and Quick to Fail, Fast to Learn. This was about the things She learned as a sourcing leader. She breaks it down to 5 things; Protect and defend, Building a team, Building the Ecosystem, Safeguarding, and The Numbers. Protect and Defends, meaning- Create Business Case, Identifying Need/Impact, and Building Internal Champions. Building the Team, meaning fund the right people, with the right skills for the positions. Building the Eco-System, meaning Ensure you have built the right mind set, and culture within your organization. Safeguarding means find partners with hiring managers and executives, get rid of the us vs them mentality, get buy in. The Numbers- Quantity vs Quality, Customer Sat, etc.

So there you go the last session at Sourcecon Fall 2017. Next week back to lesser sites. Until then remember sourcing is about “Finding what cannot be found”
