I recently have been engaged to create contextual social media for

www.greenemployers.net It has raised my awareness of Corporate Trends towards sustainability and the environment.

Some of my favorites that are relevant for a lot of us include:

http://www.cse-net.org/ Center for Sustainability and Excellence
http://www.pewclimate.org/companies_leading_the_way_belc/company_ The Business Environmental Leadership Council
http://www.thegreenworkplace.com/2010/04/green-lifestyle-survey-was... The Green Workplace: American's Commitment to Going Green: How Serious Are We?

In a time when there is a huge oil spill http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/05/7-secrets-bp-doesnt-want_n... making it very evident that corporate decision makers
have a significant impact it's a good time to position yourself and brand your organization as a GREEN employer. Through almost every functional area of corporate america I have identified change makers in finance, manufacturing, automation, supply chain, and of course leadership.

What are the implications of this trend for recruiting?

Like any other aspect of recruiting it is part of learning the culture of the organization you recruit for.

What are their Sustainability Goals?
How are they planning to create change? Functionally, by Business Unit, in Corporate Decision making process?

Who are the leaders within the organization driving the change?

What is motivating them?

How can Talent Acquisition make a difference?

When I brought up the topic at the April 30th MN Recruiters Unconference it did not appear to be a trend they were seeing yet. But all the research I have done and all the momentum corporate citizens have established are going to continue. One very interesting statement was that companies need as well as want us as consumers to support them when they make the commitment to sustainability. We need to complete the cycle and purchase and use the better choice for the world.

As always I like to create conversation and look forward to your comments
