Have you ever been able to make placements using twitter? Should every recruiter get a twitter account, or is it a useless waste of time?

Depends how you use the time John. Twitter...Tether...Toddler...I don't care what you call it; if you're doing it after hours to get your name out there and brand yourself, perfect. The more you get your name out there the better. As for specific placements, I would imagine a webmaster may be better suited than a CFO. Good Luck!
I have not yet filled a placement using Twitter but I have increased the amount of new visitors to my website and job board. I have found Twitter very useful to create my brand and get my name out there. I'm really starting to see more people who are job searching contacting me about jobs as well, so I feel that it's just a matter of time before I do fill a placement using twitter. It's definitely not the only social network I use and the process is slow so I would only start an account if you actually do enjoy other aspects of Twitter.

Yes, I have made multiple placements from candidates who started search on twitter, then landed on my web page. It starts with knowing where people came from (google analytics or hubspot), what they do (on your site), and how much time they spent on your site/each page... Good question.... Brian-
I filled a position with my twitter feed because I use it to announce new jobs or tell the world that I just interviewed a great candidate. But more importantly, I use it to build my brand.
Waste of time for placements: I feel, yes. 99% of the time
Branding: Good if that is what you build your business off of.
Making Money: Not so much in recruiting. Internet marketing and retail: Yes.
Twitter can help connect. If you fail to take that call off line within 2 emails or tweets to a prospect you've probably missed the boat. This of this like a job board. How many click does it take to loose a candidate in the application process?
