I hate to be the wet blanket but it seems the Forum gets cluttered with job postings - isn't there another place here on RBC for that? Just asking - don't shoot the messenger.

Maureen,
I agree. It's annoying to see out of the 5 visible postings that half or more are job specs.
Unfortunately I think there needs to be a FAQ page on here listing where things need posting to educate some of the users. The appropriate places to post appropriate information.

If I have a candidate or a job, usually go to the variety of groups and post there (Recruiters looking for Splits or Hi Tech Recruiters or others) based on the background of the post at the time. *I think every group should allow an email to the group as well, that way people that don't take the time to visit their groups at least get the email on the job/candidate whatever - I've noticed postings in a group and thought, if I hadn't visited, I wouldn't have known about this posting, but some don't allow "email the group" so people have to post as a discussion. I would rather see the discussion in the group areas as something pertinent to the group in information, like - if you belonged to the Solar Energy group the discussion would be information about new regulations or new tools in the industry or approved technologies, trends, etc... if you had a candidate/job you could just email the members of the group and let them decide if they want to delete it or take other actions on it. I see several discussions in a group that are profiles of people or services offered in the industry (that belongs on their personal profile page), I'll check them out by clicking on their member picture to get that info if I'm interested.
With this many users starting to hit the site, we can see AND experience how easily it can get outta control.

I also see that I don't have any activity on my page, yet I feel I am usually pretty good about participating in chat or groups or replies to discussions like this one. I don't have time and don't get paid to create blogs or seminars so I focus on doing my job in my office I guess. When I win the lottery, I'll blog all day in my boat fishing off the coast or on my trip around the world. I do understand the need to blog for exposure in the business, but some of us aren't regular writers I guess. I'll just get back on the phone.

Oops - does this discussion go under the Recruiter Rants page?

Dean ---> throws wet blanket into the dryer ;-)
I wonder if bringing a grenade to work caused any "issues". :-)
Hey Maureen, It's a lot better than it was and it's just with so many people, the site gets used in ways that may not make sense for everyone. I am constantly communicating with members about site behavior and suggesting ways for people to get better results. I don;t want to be a policeman and I don't want to ban people because they are looking to get business done. I have banned over 40 people from RecruitingBlogs.com since I started the site for aggressive spam and real disregard for the network. I don;t view posting stuff the occasional time in the wrong place as a disregard for the network. with so many people, i am sure not everyone feels as you do. I personally don't like seeing positions for non recruiting roles in the forum but stuff turns over pretty quick so it is not there for long periods of time. It's a growing pain and I agree that a FAQ would be useful. I just don't have one done. I set up a site as you know called Recruiting101.com and there are more and more people using it everyday. again, I feel it is much better today than it was 30 days ago. I don't want to send warning and stuff like that. It's not in me most days.
Maureen, you hit the nail on the head. I doubt if the recruiters find candidates by posting in discussion forums. I think they can be more productive if they use other methods; post in user groups, search engines, etc. Discussion forums are for discussions... I hope they get the message.
It's not in me most days.

LOL I can certainly "unnerstan" that!
It's happening again. It got better - now it's happening again.
big sigh
I hate the job postings, although I always cut some slack to people who are posting recruiting openings. That at least makes sense.

Why on earth do people post their current openings here?

I can't help but notice that they don't post them in the splits groups most of the time.

So I guess they are hoping we will reach into our bag and pull out an A-list candidate for them to place?

Any good recruiter will try to find their client & submit to them directly.

Come to think of it, keep em coming :)
I agree. I joined RBC because of the discussions. I wanted to learn by reading people’s postings. Why do some people think that when they post a job inhere RBC will send them a list of active candidates.
I also tried it once a long time back and I understood that it was not a good idea.
maybe you are being a little harsh. I mean, it's not the end of the world and though I agree it would be helpful if I had an FAQ about the site, I am not sure this represents the undoing of the network. Stuff rolls over fast and the stuff of interest gets a longer shelf life. when i see posts that I think would do better elsewhere I almost always send a note or leave a comment to that effect. I see much bigger issues
Good point, Jason when you put it in context.

It is not ban-worthy behavior by my book, but clearly it is annoying to some. It is the lack of common sense about it that gets to some of us, and I doubt an FAQ could change anything.
