I just discovered this cool site called Twitter.

I'm not sure if I should write "I'm Twittering... I Twitter... I am a Twit" or what. About a Month ago, a friend invited me to follow them on www.twitter.com. At first glance, it seemed fun, but I had no idea how to get started or what value it could offer me as a busy recruiter.

Then, it hit me and I signed up too.

A couple of my friends are also professional recruiters, that "Twitter." My thoughts are "let's follow them and see where we go." If anything, it will offer great entertainment value.. or who knows... the candidate of a lifetime could appear on my Twitter.

So, here I am, writing my first blog comment about my new recruiting experiment with Twitter.

I invite you to follow me on Twitter http://twitter.com/heathergardner

Let's see where it takes us!

ok... neither of the choices in your first line "sound" right. But, you've sparked my curiosity. Going to have to check out Twitter for myself. Thanks for the tip Heather.

Wow.. took a look at Twitter. Interesting.. almost strange. Probably will take a bit to digest. But, I'm already visualizing how this could apply to almost anything. Hmmmm..... helps put a bit of personal back into the internet and maybe a bit of instant gratification.. just depends on how often a "Twit" keeps updating. And.. I'm not sure if I want to be knows as a "Twit". Huh!

Jim, I'm still trying to understand the value of www.twitter.com... a few successful recruiters I know are on it - so here I am, trying it out first hand. I know several others in the social networking profession who "I'm following" and respect a great deal. We'll see where it takes me....
Best,
Heather

Heather - welcome to Twitter. I just followed you (I'm http://www.twitter.com/byosko/)

People do say, "I'm Twittering" and each individual message is often called a "Tweet." I know...it's true. *chuckle*

Hey Ben,

Tweet Tweet Tweet to you too!

Let me know if there is some additional value to Twitter that I'm not getting yet.

For recruiting specifically, I'm not sure. I know that a LOT of people complain about their jobs on Twitter. *chuckle*

If you were promoting companies (for recruiting) and not specifically jobs, you might have more success because people will always click on links to check out interesting companies.

You may also gain industry insight, quick news (faster than it appears on blogs), understand industry trends, etc. through Twitter.

I don't have time to look for myself at the moment.. Ben, maybe you can tell us how to find those folks complaining about their jobs? So.. for me.. if I wanted to find medical professionals complaining about their jobs... is there a search mechanism to do that?... and, how would you rate the mechanism if it is there?

Thanks in advance. I did like the real-time aspect. These days, we're only as good as our last e-mail or blog post. Twitter seems to take it to a whole new level.

Thanks Ben, I'll keep playing with it and see what happens. I have some well respected professionals that I know are using it now.

In the mean time, happy Twitter!

@Jim: It's not going to work that well. You're able to "track" words or phrases in Twitter.

For awhile I was tracking the word "jobs" and so you get a lot of people complaining. But rarely do they give you any details on location, type, etc. - it's a lot of "chatter" - so I don't think it could be used effectively to reach out to those people...

You would also see a lot of people looking for jobs -- Twittering something like, "I need a job." But again, too general to really use effectively...

I guess, I'll just use it as "branding" for the time being. I have a feeling there is more to it that I haven't grasped yet.
