The salary expectations are the least of my problems although you do bring up some good points.
In general you can assume that a good rule of thumb when comparing contracting rates to direct hire rates are as follows:
On average benefits for employees start at around. 30% being a W2 employee with about 3 weeks time off, 8 holidays per year and a reasonable medical plan that covers 75-80% of the employee.
If the employer adds in 401K, stock, matching funds, dependent health coverage, or other "perks" it can go as high as 50%.
Those numbers help me give independent contractors a realistic idea of what to expect as their salaries get lower.…

....as in the MOST influential are probably not spending their waking hours making sure every other influential person in recruiting is reading their tweets, blogs, articles, reviews, white papers, interviews and every other piece of warmed-over/passed around coverage of the same old crap.
They are RE - CRUI - TING.
Get it? That's where the influence is. DOING THE WORK. Not blabbing about it all day!
Show me something new, will ya? Oh wait - you can't. There IS nothing new.
The 100 Most Influential People in Recruiting......hmmmmm.......This may be a stoopid question - but, uh, do they have to BE IN recruiting? .....or hanging out on the sidelines sipping their Starbucks and talking about it.

I think with Obamacare going nationwide, more companies will participate in insurance exchanges (ie, choose to pay a penalty vs. providing healthcare directly), that candidates will get their own healthcare, and that it will become separate from the employment arena, which is going to be best for everyone. In this respect, the Canadian model works well.

Nevertheless I remain confident in the ingenuity of the professionals in our business, and their ability to think of creative solutions to this challenge. I am excited by Obamacare and the chance for the under and non insured to get coverage; when healthcare costs are the leading cause of bankruptcy in the country, something is drastically wrong.…
