We need to also realize that the folks on LinkedIn are not Candidates until we have engaged them and you have received a resume confirming they are on the market. Your question has been answered - LinkedIn has impacted how recruiters and Employers source Talent- I will also say that a profile on LinkedIn will not always be the same as what you might see in a resume - The LinkedIn Profile is really an Advertisement to showcase a background of the past and or a preparation for the Future Direction of where that Professional is going Career wise with or without aid of a Recruiter ... I have to warn you about Aikido real fast, though - I would really think about before getting into it as it's a lot of throws . . . and although learning how to fall without injury is paramount (the art of Ukemi), I see a great deal of soft tissue injuries. I imagine it's a result of being thrown so much as Aikido is all about performing a throw in a way that transfers your opponent's energy. The harm is normally done because people don't know how to fall properly, so you'll learn that . . . but it is truly tough on the soft tissues so I don't want to see your love for Yoga impacted by any kind of lagging injury. We made money on the sale of the first home, and we have an additional saving of $1k a month as a resiult which goes to pay down other debts, which weren't large to begin with. B) My wife also sold a business which was tied to the home building market. She got out in time and was able to make some money there, though not enough to replace the old income stream. She is in the process of developing a new business or two for herself. C) My employer has been impacted by the dowturn due to increased transportation and ingredient costs. We are not going to have reductions, but we will slow down on hiring and replacement where possible. Not sure if this is what you were looking for. Even in boom times I've always received hundreds of resumes for a given job, and most of those resumes are off target. But if one develops a strong screening process, the pain is mitigated. But regardless of whether one posts job ads or conducts profile searches to find candidates, it's patently ridiculous for a company to require that an individual is currently employed in order to be considered. It's funny how companies operate. They create a situation in which individuals are involuntarily impacted, then disdain those same people. The same phenomenon was created with the corporate practice of hiring contract employees. As companies flocked to this new way of saving money, the ranks of direct employees shrank as they were relegated to taking contract jobs. Consequently, most contractors found themselves in that position involuntarily. The irony is that many employers seeking to fill FT job openings, actively rejected contractors, ostensibly because the required "recent full time" experience.
