While much of the US has seen flat or declining hiring demand over the past months, Omaha, Nebraska has skyrocketed to new highs. During October, more than 9,300 job ads were posted online – 93% of which were placed directly by employers (8,700 job ads, up 92% versus October 2010) and 7% of the listings were advertised by recruiting firms (610 job ads, down 40% year-over-year).

For the first time this year, we are seeing a decrease in the volume of online job ads posted for Computer and IT related jobs when compared to the same period last year. Employers and staffing agencies posted just over 27,000 new online job ads during the last 60 days, representing a decrease of approximately 4% versus the same 60 day period in 2010.

Engineers – particularly Industrial Engineers – have been in high demand this year. However as the end of the calendar year approaches, hiring demand for most occupations decreases. Industrial Engineers have seen this slowing since the summer. In October, Recruiters placed a total of 15,900 new online job ads for Industrial Engineers in the US. In the first half of this year, hiring demand for Recruiters was growing – a promising sign that employers planned to do more hiring. However, over the past several months, the volume of job ads for Recruiting professionals has declined significantly. In October, demand dropped again with about 4,700 new job ads posted online for Recruiters, 10% less than in September and down 9% versus one year ago.
