I was laid off from my job in March of 2008. It was the most painful separation I have ever experienced and since I came to LA 5 years ago to work for this company, I am feeling very disconnected. I was responsible for the companies wireless technology and have been in wireless since 1985.
This the longest time…

From the Washington-Dulles airport, I posted
THIS a couple of days ago about
Dan Pink's latest book:
The Adventures of Johnny Bunko: The Last Career Guide You'll Ever Need.
As soon as I finished the post, I boarded the plan and had an itch to make a few…

If it's wireless, it's trendy.
There's grand talk throughout the tech world about a wave of new networks and wireless innovation that will provide better Internet access, deliver streaming video and foster an array of consumer-friendly features. Although it's too early to be sure which companies or networks will be…

No, the customer isn't always right.
But if you get feedback from customers, this post is worth the 60 seconds it will take you to read.
It's a post from
Seth Godin's Blog and it will make you think twice about how you respond to customers if you are in the business of providing a "service" to the mass of humanity.
Here's Seth:
You probably get feedback from customers.…

The list of web 2.0 tools available today is astounding. I could list more, but these five are really the top tools that I use every day (and actually, I'm stretching it to add GrandCentral to the list, but I just like it).
LinkedIn:
I think I am on LinkedIn 24x7. Seriously, I log in at the crack of dawn and never log out. Today, it's the best tool I have for connecting with the people that I want to meet - need to meet - have to meet! You…

I know it's hard to believe. But here's the quote from the article:
"Boring jobs turn our mind to autopilot, say scientists - and it means we can seriously mess up some simple tasks."
But, here's the cool part of this research:
Monotonous duties switch our brain to "rest mode", whether we like it or not, the researchers report in Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences.
They found mistakes can be predicted up to 30 seconds before we make… Continue

We live, work, and recruit with a fickle bunch. What they want changes from one day to the next - their likes, dislikes; their job-descriptions - products - home addresses.
Even the way we interact with them changes:
Facebook,
Plaxo,
LinkedIn.
When it comes…

...for the Homeowner who has everything.
Ok, I know this picture has nothing to do with Recruiting...oh well.
We've had our house on the market for a while - trying to move north of Dallas to a smaller community. Just signed a contract to sell our home (yesterday), so the pressure is on to find a new house.
Our Realtor sent us a link to a home on 4 acres that overlooks a pond - it's pretty cool. However...
We cracked up when we saw this picture of one…

Excellent keynote today from
Penelope Trunk at the
ERE Expo in San Diego. By the way.....Trunk knows how to hold an audience....holy cow (
Dave, can she come back pretty please?).
I caught her after the session (What GenY Really Wants...)and asked her one question: What's the one thing you want the attendees to remember?
Here's what she…
