Tough Times for Exec Search Firms in DC

On the front page of today's Washington Post Business Section. Even in the country's best job market, search firms are feeling the pinch. Many are shifting lines of business, shedding poor performers, but uncertainty still reigns supreme. There may be a light at the end of the tunnel however due to upcoming bailout and stimulus spending, which reminds me of my late grandfather telling me stories about how life in DC during the Great Depression wasn't so bad, primarily due to the proximity of… Continue

New Corporate Recruiting Blog - Success Starts Here

Today, a vision has been realized.

A few years back, I attended my first ERE Expo in San Diego. It was there that I was first truly exposed to blogs, and their possibilities in the world of recruiting. I came home from that event in a frenzy, with a dozen to-do items that I felt we could address, including creating a corporate recruiting blog for my employer at the time (Gary Cluff can attest to this). I saw what Heather,… Continue

Recruiting Today's Top Grads

The Washington Post Magazine had an interesting article yesterday about college recruiting. The article certainly over-generalizes the current college recruiting environment (not all graduating students are getting this treatment, and not all employers are applying it). What it does show however what some top-end companies/government agencies are doing even in a softening economy, as well as what things are important to the current generation of graduates.

A worthy read if you are… Continue

Recruiting In Public Restrooms

Yesterday, I took the family on our first trip to the beautiful new Washington Nationals ballpark, simply named for now, Nationals Park. More on just how great of a ballpark this is in a moment...

I don't know about you, but as a Recruiter, I can spot a recruiting-related ad from a mile away. So when I enter the men's restroom after we get inside the ballpark, what's the first thing I see, you guessed it. You… Continue

Curious Competitive Intel Gathering Tactic via Facebook

Look what I found on my Facebook home page this morning:

Somebody out there appears to be soliciting information from our employees about our firm, and offering a $500 prize for the effort. I would imagine of course that they are targeting a number of other organizations as well. The Company conducting the research is GD Job Research. Anyone ever hear of this survey firm? I can't say that I'm… Continue

What is a 'friend' anymore?

What is a 'friend' anymore? That's the question that many facebook users are starting to ask at any rate, according to an excellent article on social networking in yesterday's Washington Post. The article discusses in great detail how the term 'friend' has changed in the social networking world, or what they described as 'Friends Next'. In particular, the article highlights how those who were very… Continue

Setting The Record Straight

With all due respect to Slouch, he created Recruitingblogs.com, not I. Dave Copps was still very kind in his mention of me in a recent Sourcecon email. More here: Props From Copps
