During this holiday season please remember that friends do not let friends get drunk and sing Christmas Karaoke.
For some smiles let's play you know you are a recruiter if...
You know you are a recruiter if you go to a party, meet a new person ,when they tell you what they do for a living you ask them how long they have been there. If it's less than a year you immediately think..not recruitable yet, then ask them how long they worked for the commpany they were with previously.
You know you are a recruiter if someone tells you their brother in law does something with computers and you spend the next twenty minutes asking them if he ever mentioned anything about java j2EE, apache, rational rose and forty other buzzwords they never heard of and you write the brother in laws name on a cocktail napkin but can't remeber the guys name you were talking to.
You know you are a recruiter if you are introduced to someone who is an executive at a company you have been trying to work with for two years and you take party chit chat to the level of stalking and keep arranging to head to the bar everytime the guy goes for a drink.
You know you are a recruiter if you are calling potential clients to find out when the Xmas party is so you can figure out a way to crash it or at least hang out in the lobby of the hotel where it's being held.
Any one care to add some contributions that come to mind?
lol @Sandra I know that one! :)
My husband had a day off today and asked me to play hooky with him... Without thinking I said "I have FIVE CANDIDATES interviewing today are you crazy??" Mr. Ala was not amused...
You know you are a recruiter when you have three dogs in the car , think the garage door is up but clip it with the truck, knocking it off the tracks. You leave the garage door hanging by whatever it hangs by dash to the groomer, dump the dogs and dash to the office to do a phone interview leaving instructions with your neighbor to call somebody to fix the damn thing because you can't miss this phone interview. Help me Jesus, recruiters do not get holidays.
Speaking of holidays... You know you are a recruiter when you are closing a candidate on the way to the hospital in labor with your 4th child. Hey I needed that commission to get through maternity leave :)
@ sandra- cell phone, maybe?
I have a thing about interviewing on a cell. Won't do it unless there is no other way. :) I also record phone interviews which precludes cell in my world.
Anybody have any memorial recruiter films or moments they would recommend?
I got a kick out of Angelina Jolie's role as President of an IT Staffing firm in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith". Remember when Brad Pitt finds her office while searching for the mystery counterpart from the dessert? He got the address from hacking into the HD of the lap top. Priceless. Also, the conversation they have about a "double submittal" and trouble with a client fee that evening at home? LOL. Great recruiter stuff.
You know you're an IT Recruiter when you come across a new buzzword you've never heard before and you Google it and find yourself incorporating it into a conversation soon thereafter. Joomla, Big Data, Objective-C, Flex, J2ME, J2EE, Dot.net, Cold Fusion, Perl, Basic.... anyone?
You know you're an IT Recruiter when pretty soon you get so good at incorporating the buzz words that you have to quickly remind a candidate who goes beyond your scope of understanding, that quite frankly, you know you started the conversation speaking English but now....he's talking over your head and you don't know what language he's speaking anymore.
You know you're an IT Recruiter when you cringe when candidates "decline" your inmail messages.
You know you're a recruiter when Linkedin "bans" you from sending more "invites" on Linkedin because you've reached your 2,000 invitations limit.
You know you're a recruiter when you can write a resume from scratch for the average person in about 10 minutes or critique one they've spent the past 2 weeks and countless hours writing in about 2 minutes.
You know your'e a recruiter when you're the go-to "resume writing" favors guy for your friends.
