This is part 6 in my Fall Sourcecon roundup, highlighting the presentations at Sourcecon Oct 2015.
This post is going to cover all 3 of the tracks for this time period. So we will start with the Fundamental track which was “Social Media Sourcing- Not just a Marketing Tool” by Chris South and Katrina Collier. The thing about this session is I have been saying for years that some of our best tools in staffing were and or are Sales and Marketing tools. We need to remember they were looking for the same information we are with regards to identification and contact info before we were.
In this session they covered sourcing on social media, specifically with Facebook. Interesting picture
So it appears Facebook has a very very wide reach throughout the world. They go on to state how you need to protect your reputation. They talk about how Facebook Graph search has changed but
it is still there. Example “People who live in New York” will find people who live in New York. The main difference is the check boxes that use to be on the right side are not there anymore. So for example if you type: “people who work as recruiters and live in dallas” you will get exactly that. They talk about groups, people, etc and how to use them which is pretty self explanatory. OF course contacting them is the other issue. They talk about doing it through Facebook, and then using other tools like connect 6, connectifier to find contact info. Now of course there are tools that can help you with al this some that come to mind are: FB UID by autoclick, Facebook Email ID scrapper, Social List buster and of course xraying using something like this; site:facebook.com People who work as developer and live in Seattle "gmail.com"
The next session was “Diversity Sourcing Panel” With Joshua Jones, Cyndy Davis, Mia Ferolito, Paul Francisco, and Torin Eliis. This session was about the things you can do to ensure you are providing your hiring managers a diverse slate of candidates. Things like specific words such as Mrs, groups such as Grace Hopper, Fraternities, Sororities, schools that are diverse, etc. You can find most of this stuff at the links here: Veteran Native American African American Hispanic Women.
Lastly is the Sourcing Lab Which was “extracting, Managing and Manipulating Sourcing Data” by Kameron Swinton and Mike Wolford. Kameron focused on Excel tricks. He showed you how to take text and break it down into columns, example if the full name is in one column he showed how you can take that and turn it into two columns with first name in one and last in another. This is important for importing and manipulation. This is done using the “text to Column” function in Excel. You can always use Help to learn more. He then shows you how to use the CONCENTRATE function to combine 2 or more pieces of text into one. For example =CONCENTRATE(A2,”.”,B2,”@”,C2,”.com”) would basically do the below
Kameron talks about using Duplicate removal function in Excell to dedup your data. He then goes on to talk about tools you can use in conjunction with excel to validate emails such as:
Vibe, Full contact, email hunter, etc. Lastly he talks about testing your emails to ensure they are good using Mail tester, and several other sites and tools.
Mike talks about xraying into zoominfo using the following string site:zoominfo.com *@its.jnj.com to get emails form that company. Then he uses Mozenda to pull the data and put it in a nice table which can be downloaded. He mentions other tools such as Tabula, then Linkedin spreadsheet import to bring all the info together.
