SourceCon 2013 - Seattle Day 1: An Overview

For those of you who did not know Sourceon is here in Seattle or rather Bellevue at the Microsoft campus. Day 1 just concluded and it was a busy day filled with Networking and great speakers.

The day started off with Jeremy Roberts giving a state of sourcing address to the attendees. Next came a panel discussion with 4 of the tops in our industry Tito Magobet, Phil Hendrickson, and Lori Carlson moderated by John Vlastelica.

Then started the breakout sessions, which for this Sourcecon were broken out into the 3 types:

  • Leadership
  • Tactical
  • labs

All total there were 9 session today with topics ranging from Veteran hiring/sourcing, Boolean strings, sourcing tools and tricks, creating sourcing teams, competitive intelligence, and more.

These sessions with presented by such sourcing greats as:

  • Glenn Gutmacher
  • Dan Piontkowski
  • Mark Tortonci
  • AmyBeth Hale
  • and many more to include yours truly as I did both the veteran sourcing and tools and tricks labs.

Some key take a ways were:

  • use of facebook graphs
  • search tools such as Imetasearch, Copernic, and Imser
  • se of such tools as Tweepz and Followerwonk to analyze and source with twitter.
  • The fact that over 200,000 people leave the military every year and 80% leave with training and experience in jobs that exist in the civilian world.

Tomorrow is day 2 and with it 8 more action packed sessions.

Thanks, Dean. Which "path" did you take for the sessions? If a full cycle recruiter w/somewhat beginner level boolean skills went, which would you recommend?
