You lost me at "Hello" ~ a note to job board and sourcing tool salespeople

Dear Job Board or Sourcing Tool Salesperson -

Thank you so much for your call today.  Your message let me know that you could help me increase traffic to my website by anywhere from 25 to 50%.  Well, unfortunately, you just lost me.  We currently are fortunate enough to get over 39,000 applications a year - while hiring only 1,200.  So, the last thing I want to provide my recruiters is more volume of resumes to review and disposition.

What I want and need is someone who can help drive specific types of applicants to my website.  For example, for one entry level role I was reviewing last week, we received over 7,000 applications last year - to hire 55.

Please don't provide me more applications like those.  Instead offer me solutions that get to my real needs - those highly specialized people that aren't going from job board to job board.  I would really love to hear how you can drive those types of candidates to my website to apply - or actually, just tell me who they are and we will call or e-mail them.

I call back those that talk to me about targeted sourcing or targeting specific types of people to come to the website or have creative ways to find the niche talent. One recent successful salesperson was one who listened to my needs and then recommended targeted e-mail - and could let me know specifically what size of audience they could reach with the qualifications I need most.

Get past the driving traffic and find a way to drive the right kind of candidate to the right company and your sales success - and your returned calls will be much improved.

Thanks for your time!

Thanks, Molly -  gave me a chuckle as I have these conversations often as well!

I have that same reaction every time I see or hear someone recommend Facebook as a superior source of prospective candidates because there are a billion+ active users. As opposed to the inadequate mere millions that have a LinkedIn profile. Not to mention the obvious overlap between practically all of us that are not only using FB, but at least one, if not many other sites for various personal or professional purposes. Or the other crowd of people too busy living their lives to bother with any of the above.

The problem with these "solution" providers is that they fail to understand the concept that most of us appreciate a more focused approach that favors value over volume AND quality over quantity.

Kelly -

I think you said it very well - it is a quality issue not a quantity issue!

THanks!
