Your Network - personal, LinkedIn, professional, and degrees out from you.  It is about to make a company go public - LinkedIn, it has launched careers, and lent itself to the utmost results in tough searches.  The larger your network, the more valuable your reach.

I can't tell you how many times a referrel, or business contact has turned into the "Silver Bullet" that cracks open the hires and makes viable outcomes possible.  Your network is to be treated with care, given the utmost attention, for your reputation depends upon it.

A good rule of thumb is to network substantially to the point where you have people CALLING YOU.  And then before the magical job order that sparks 10 different agencies, or the key requisition in your organization's needs that sparks a scramble for talent.  Let me share a scenario:

It is so very important these days to have a network that allows your reputation to preceed you, so that people are clamoring for the attention, where value is added to a degree that candidates come to you before even having to pick up the phone.  WOULDN'T WE ALL LOVE THAT SCENARIO.
