The Follow-Up You’ve Always Wanted to Send but Haven’t

Recruiters are the face of the brand to new candidates, protecting the employer brand, outgoing, polite, diplomatic, engaging, and the adjectives just don’t stop.  But I feel safe in saying that if a recruiter’s internal monologue were ever visible the interactions would go from G-rated to ‘R’ pretty quickly.  We all have horror stories of that one candidate.   Those tales you share at conferences and preach to the noobs about how crazy it can be out there and what they are getting themselves into.  I know my friend Katrina has been documenting some of these stories for awhile now and some of you have probably already enjoyed some of her posts.

For our latest contest I want to hear some of those stories from the community.  Here’s the contest: Write the follow up letter to that terrible candidate that you wished you could have but didn’t for obvious reasons and post it as a new blog or a comment below.  I want to hear how you would have responded to the stinky candidates, the ones telling inappropriate jokes to break the ice, the resumes with obvious typos, the candidates who had no business applying for that role in the first place.

I think this goes without saying but don’t share the actual names of anyone.  I think we’ll reward the winner this round with $100 to take home and spend however you wish.  But based on the recruiters I know, I suspect will be spent on some form of booze to release the frustrations that were caused by some of these choice candidates in the first place.   Title your blog/comment whatever you like but how about we add #Follow-up to the title so we can keep track.  You know what, maybe we better shorten that.  Add #FU to the title so I can keep track of the submissions.

The editorial team here at Recruiting Blogs will decide the winner on Monday July 20, 2015 around 4pm ET.  The contest starts Monday July 13, 2015 and will run through Friday July 17 at 5 pm ET.  Formal rules are here for those that need them.

Just to recap for those of you who don't read well…or need a TLDR

1) Post a letter to the worst candidate - your real internal monologue

2) Use #FU so we can find it

3) Share it with #FU

4) Win a benjamin, yo.
