A day comes where your mind opens up to the fact that challenge will never be fully under control, only managed.

On November 9th I turned 30, and hit an interesting horizon of sorts. It was as if looking on and reviewing the past suddenly all was clear. I graduated from SJSU in 2005, hoping to find my way forward in the jungle that is career. So many things each day will pull you into multiple shifting directions that to regain the focus is a critical skill, increasingly important, and increasingly part of your life.

You try and deliver your best each day, and then your best which the day before was great, is now just good, that is because the world is challenging you to give up your old preconcieved notions, and launch into a new direction.

I used to think that I knew a lot. I do. But being in a position that requires me to rethink my approaches and readjust my direction is often a very powerful eye opening experience.

My staffing experience began in an internship recruiting 100% commission sales folks at ADT. I loved that job, it was fun, it allowed me to meet my peers and pass onto them something that I took great pride in, securing people's homes.

When I worked at Applied Materials, I had a great desire to work in a corporate staffing function as my career path. Realistically, I enjoyed the opportunity there, supporting a huge HR team, and loving every aspect of my work.

When I entered the staffing agency world through Venturi Staffing as an Account Manager, I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to manage my client relationships and build new ones. That year was exciting, but then I strove to get back to HR by pushing myself towards non-profit.

After my non-profit experience I would wind up working for the vendor who supplied our payroll, Paychex. I was a HR consultant, there with 40 clients to see every month. It was a very busy schedule with lots of projects due weekly. I overcame this challenge with flying colors, and found myself liking serving clients.

When an opportunity with SPI came along where I could combine the two I was hooked. In recent months, much has changed, and challenges that I would have never imagined arose to keep me on my toes. These challenges were by many senses a glimpse into what recruiting is all about, reacting to changes in priorities, keeping the ship and rudder steering to the right place when everything around you is going in a busy direction.

How do you swerve through challenges, with your eyes forward and your mind committed to a straight course.

At times it seems amazing to beleive that life can be so good, so crazy, so focused, that to change your perspective along with the changing tides will ultimately make you a better man.

I see the opportunity as never before to take a little humble pie and beckon to the right place for inward resolve and strength. Life is a winding road, and swerving through challenges is part of the territory after all.
