I clicked on a website recently and found the words “Customer Love” in the “About Us” section of the page. I was reading the recent press release about the company and when I got to the last paragraph, it said, “For answers not appearing in our FAQs, please contact Customer Love” at such-and-such number.

Customer Love?

That sounds a lot like Dubya saying, “Too many OB-GYN’s aren't able to practice their love with women…”

We used to be called Recruiters. Nothing fancy schmancy. Just Recruiter. Then we became Account Reps, Search Consultants. A few years ago it became fashionable to say Talent Acquisition Manager. What else do we want to call ourselves when we don’t want to call ourselves Recruiters?

Yesterday I saw a job posting for an agency in San Francisco looking for someone to obtain job orders, interface with clients, source the boards for candidates, blah-blah-blah. What are they calling this person?

Ambassador. Wooptidoo!

ROFL!!! Ah the people dreaming up complicated and cutesy titles need help from marketers. I just read a post on the penchant of entrepreneurs to apply fancy titles. Your title should clearly and succinctly tell people what you do. Recruiter is beautiful in its elegant simplicity to communicate what one can expect. Although Princess of Power has a nice ring too. :-)

Hi Maya,

How about a title, the people generator or open positions smasher? The title; Customer Love is too mushy for me. We need a position title dictionary to learn of all the current titles of positions and what they mean or what the people do while having such a title!

Would you find such a book online?

Ha, Reminds me of the analogy “Why is Customer Service like making love to a Gorilla?”
Let me know if you want the answer.
