I'd like to share a tip on how to search LinkedIn for the members outside of a certain geographical area.
There are at least two good reasons to search outside of an area:
1. If you search by keywords, with no location specified, you are likely to see the top results from your own area - LinkedIn thinks that finding people who live nearby is a high priority.
To illustrate, here's an example search from an account, whose owner resides in the San…

It looks like ZipRecruiter, that has been offering job posts and social shares of jobs, is rapidly working on adding resume database access, currently in Beta. Applicants for past jobs can opt-in for their resumes to be found and viewed by all employers who use the system. (This gives ZipRecruiter instant volume of candidates already in the database.) New applicants can opt-in when uploading a resume.
Resume…

Finding someone's email address, starting from a social profile (such as a LinkedIn profile), and finding social profiles, starting from an email address, are two kinds of top-requested productivity tools for Sourcers, Recruiters, Sales Professionals, and Social Media Marketers these days, for many good reasons, such as the new rigid limitations for both searching for professionals…

Due to the just-introduced Commercial Use Limit on Search, many LinkedIn members are hitting the search quota for the month in the first day or two of January 2015 - and have to wait another month to search again.…

Once in a while I run into a post outlining a sourcing tip that I didn't know about, or hear a new tip in conversations. Today I'd like to point to some of those tips and thank my colleagues for sharing them.
1) The Facebook #Sourcing Tutorial by Balazs Paroczay . It's not "just" a tip but a whole methodology of constructing Facebook Graph…

Back in 2009 I published a post on ERE.net "Call or Email or Use Social Media?" The post was about reaching out to potential candidates, or to business prospects, using Social Networks. While some of the technical details are, of course, outdated 5 years later, the idea remains - and you can do MUCH more now than back then.
I'd like to clearly identify the topic of this post. It is not about messaging your friends on Facebook and…

Up until recently, search results in LinkedIn Recruiter (LIR) and in (any) personal account were the same. LIR provides more results available for viewing for a given search and better results visibility (and also some facets that are not available in a personal search).
This has changed dramatically.
If you have a LinkedIn Recruiter account, you must read on.
Here are three examples of searches, compared side-by-side for a personal vs a LIR…

("Part One" briefly outlines some background. If you are only interested in "how-to", please jump to the "Part Two" below.
Please note, that I think that inviting others for no good reason is NOT appropriate.)
Part One. Reasons to Connect
LinkedIn is a business networking site, where people can "connect" with each other. Connecting provides for ways to keep each other's contact info; track interactions; perhaps get on…

A term definition works if the majority of practitioners agree to it. It's quite remarkable, that with Sourcing becoming hugely popular and necessary, we still lack a definition.
Back in January Glen Cathey wrote:
"It believe it would certainly be helpful and beneficial to have a universally agreed upon definition…

If you do online research, don't overlook your local public library. It's an excellent resource of online information, not just on books and publications, but also on businesses. In this post, I will specifically write about the US Public libraries. Many other countries would have similar services offered at public libraries.
While Librarians are certainly skilled at organizing and searching for info, guess what... there's not even a list of all the…

"...one of the most overlooked techniques for companies to employ.”
INTRO
I've long wanted to write a post about "Talent Maps", which I see as a tool, as well as a strategic part of Recruiting and Sourcing. This post was triggered by several recent interactions with colleagues.
Apparently, in the UK, as well as in Australia and New Zealand,…

In the following post I am going to explain how to easily and quickly test all of the guesses for a person's email address all at once using MS Outlook.
MS Outlook has an add-on called Social Connector. I have Outlook 2013 and the Social Connector is built in; for this latest version you need to turn it on. For earlier Outlook versions…

This is a short version of my blog post, with the main 3 steps outlined.
Uncover Hidden Names, View Full Profiles Profiles on LinkedIn in 3 Simple Steps.

InMails are included in paid LinkedIn accounts, both personal and the LIR (LinkedIn Recruiter). I've recently run into InMails working not in the way we'd expect. I sincerely hope that LinkedIn will fix this soon and will update you when they do.
This is what sending an InMail dialog looks like…

In the flood of sourcing tools and (sometimes) cluttered marketing messages around them, one type of tools stands apart and is worth your attention. It's no replacement for LinkedIn or for job boards; it's a new concept, introduced in 2011, that can be combined with existing resources and…

(starting Jan 13, 2014)
To clarify, my source is a phone call with a LI rep yesterday (which happened for a different reason - namely - my LIR account was charging to send InMails to group members back in November (which shouldn't have happened back then) - this is a long trace following up...it almost doesn't matter anymore but I would love the support to get better.
The rep said that:
1) InMails in LIR to group members are now becoming paid - starting Jan 13. He said…
