Most of the individuals have been bullied some or the other time, not just by the outside world but even in their houses. It is completely uninvited and the oppressed always finds it really hard to win the battle against the oppressor.
When it comes to the workplace, bullying is prevalent here too. Here are a few things that should do to deal with the same. Take a look.
- Stand for yourself-
You can do a lot of things to stop the bully from bullying you from the very beginning. All that you need to do is simply stand against what is wrong. You should show that you are not going to accept such behavior. So, to show the same you should have a strong body language. Remember not to slouch and to question their actions with a strong voice. You don’t necessarily need to lower yourself to do their level. Just use your words wisely so that the other person finds it hard to make you the victim. Which bully would anyway want to bully a person who is hard to control or yell at? You can use HR software to manage this issue. Raising your voice is very important as when you will not do so, the bully will continue to rise in power. So gather the courage to speak up.
- Document everything-
- You may be the introvert and shy type of a person who isn’t quick in reacting to situations or takes time to process the incident then this will work for you. For instance, when some sort of bullying is done to you in a meeting or somewhere else, you can do quick documentation of the same. Pen things down or use HR software to report the incidents or series of incidents that have happened to you. Write who all were present, what was said and how was it said to you. Documentation will basically help you in remembering the incidents when you report them. Other proofs like other stakeholders praising you can also help.
- Immerse in self-care-
When you are bullied, it takes a toll on your health mentally. Just so that it doesn’t affect your personal life to an extent that you stop enjoying even your personal life, do some yoga and meditation. These will instill some positivity in your mind and will help you battle the damage. Talking about the issue with friends and family to vent it all out can also help in releasing the stress.
- Talk to the HR-
Not just colleagues, managers can also be the one bullying their employee(s). You just need to make sure you are approaching the right HR. Some handle payroll, some recruitment, and some existing talent. If you have an HR software, you can escalate the request directly by choosing the HR option. This way you will ensure that the request goes to the right HR.
If the result of any step you have taken against the bully isn’t satisfying enough then you can always look for a better option.
