This is more of a question than a pure blog post. What do you all do (if anything) when you come across a resume, say on Career Builder, of someone who works for your company?
I have had this happen several times in recent past and am wondering if anyone has examples of what happened. Did you tell their boss? Contact them directly? Do nothing? I have an obligation of honesty and loyalty to the firm. On the other hand, it is not my business to interfere with a colleague's job/career. There may be other things going on behind the scene that I am not privy to, nor should be.
Do you know reason for your top performer motivation to leave? WIthout knowing that it is hard to give a definite answer. Obviously, your colleague is bright enough to put a private resume online but felt the need not to make their's as such.
I feel ones action should depend on their role in the company as this will determine what obligations they have. I hope this helps again, good question.
