Hiring Project Managers and have a requirement for a PMP? It's not as if the certification ensures that the person will be a great PM just like AIRS or CIR certs ensure someone being a great sourcer or recruiter or a PHR or SPHR being a great HR person. Please...

Here's a nice article that speaks to the PMP-only syndrome.

Energized Incompetence

The second prerequisite for building a talent community is mapping the passionate affinity group to its counterparts outside your organization.  If an external community or an unassembled group of people outside of your organization are not having conversations about the affinity you want to advance, do not attempt to build a talent community.  Similar to the passion (No Passion, No Community)…

Social Recruiting IS NOT a New Concept

I find the buzz surrounding "social recruiting" kind of amusing.

I began my recruiting career in 1994. At that time, the only "job board" was Dice.com and even it was a dial-up BB. Online recruiting wasn't even a common concept yet. From 1995 to Y2K the online recruiting space exploded. Nearly every corporate environment became familiar with online recruiting through the use of job boards, primarily. Those were pretty great for a while, because they were extra hands helping to source… Continue

Paying It Forward As a Recruiter In a Down Economy...

This mentions The Ruthie List and RBC as a place to find recruiters, cool. I joke about how many interviews I have been on and not yet landing that perfect gig, but it's HUGE that I am getting so much help and virtual friends are opening so many doors. I am doing my part as well, helping others with resumes and making referrals for all the jobs I wasn't a fit for. These are indeed scary times that we are witnessing, thankfully there are people stepping up and being people, being human beings… Continue

First Entry!

Man, this is exciting! I'm glad to be in this community with recruiters of similar ilk and to have space to share developments from my start-up in its early stages! It's an interesting ride, for sure.

Some background:

I am an independent recruiter based in NYC, specializing in New Media. As an independent recruiter, I depend a lot on my networks to source candidates. I came to the conclusion that communicating with my networks could be made a lot easier and less time… Continue

SourceCon Washington DC 2010 – Few Words…

For last 6 years sourcing has been a real passion for me. I would

proudly say that SourceCon and community around SourceCon has been one

of the prime reasons for this. I can still remember me and few of my

team members at OS2i spent an entire night in 2007 solving SC challenge.

I came 4th in challenge while others also completed the same. Lot of

learning we did in Sourcing at that time was by following in lights of

Barbara Ling to Shally’s. We were…

A Test Question for the People Sourcing Certification Program

Participants of the People Sourcing Certification Program go through 60 questions for the Level 1 and 80 questions for the Level 2 at the end of the Program. We use the tests as an additional opportunity to practice and apply the sourcing skills.

As several participants have pointed out, and as one of them wrote, the Program actually makes you “think” instead of just plugging in some answers and…

The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding

The 22 Immutable Laws of Branding

Some of my favorites:

The Law of Expansion: The power of a brand is inversely proportional to its scope. Brands that spread themselves across categories lose brand focus, identity, and ultimately market share. Look at the career pages of company websites - sure sounds as if many are trying to be everything to everyone.

Top Practitioners Solve For Diversity in Campus Recruiting

At this point we’d like to think that the value of diversity is a given. Not only is creating a diverse workforce in your company the right thing to do, it’s also a proven benefit to business overall. Making diverse hires is both socially valuable and profitable - a more diverse workforce means a more adaptable company, a more diverse marketing department means you can get your message into a vast array of communities much easier, and…
