Recruit Through Blogging

Six months ago, we discussed the utilization of company blogs for recruiting. What surprises me is the hesitance that some organizations still have to jump on the band wagon. Those slow to adapt certainly bring up valid

points, such as the potential negative impact, employee selection,

and/or maintaining some sense of control. However, isn't the whole

point to allow freedom of speech? To gain true…

Mandated Salary Increases Considered in China

FORECAST: Looming clouds on the horizon in China with definite signs of wet weather, and not even the remotest connection to the presence of bears.

This is self-inflicted rain.

The Chinese Ministry of Labor and Social Security is apparently working on a new law that encourages employers to pay higher salaries. It has not been announced as specifically mandatory, with compulsion for employers, but the fact of it’s consideration is problematic, to say the…

It's just lovely weather outside!

Ugh. It's only 5pm and it's super dark and gloomy. That is the down

side to sitting so close to windows and the door. I think if it wasn't

for my heater I'd freeze to death from the draft that comes in every

time someone opens the door facing my cube.

Recruiting is slowly picking back up. My brain has somewhat defrosted and I'm filling my pipeline.

So onto more interesting stuff. I'm actually looking for a room right now.

Last night I drove to this place in… Continue

Candidates want to make them laugh

I’m not sure of the actual number of times, but in the recent past (6 months or so) it seems that this (“I made them laugh”) is a typical response from my candidates when I ask them how they think they did on the interview.

Sure this could be a good (but isn’t necessarily)…

Don't Forget The Past

Here’s a quick tip for Recruiters.

If your search for top talent includes any of the many Job Boards there’s an easy way you can find some excellent candidates.

Before you focus your attention on those candidates who recently created their account and added their Profile/Resume (or those who recently edited it) you might want to first check out all the qualified candidates from 1,2,3 and maybe even 4 years ago if the Job Board you’re using gives you that option.

You’d be…

Quick Tip for Sourcing Talent on Social Networks

On the Radar: Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

From Shannon Seery Gude on EXCERL8ion:

How is it done? Leveraging Google’s ability to pull back search results from a specific URL, use the following methos to build a search string to find candidate profiles: keyword (such as a name, company, location etc) and then the profile URL. For example, all profiles on LinkedIn start with the URL: www.linkedin.com/pub or…

Forget Millennials? Employers Want Baby Boomers Instead?

Here’s an interesting bit of information from this past weekend.

“More employers are catching on to the benefits of hiring older workers. They recognize the fact that mature workers bring good experience and skills to the workplace,” said Deborah Russell, Director of Workforce Issues for AARP in Washington.

First things first, clearly, it’s not surprising to hear this type of thing from a political…

Recruiting Marathon

Sometimes I use Analogies to give me insight, motivation and ideas. I know sales people and recruiters use them everyday, "you have to go the distance", "let's hit one out of the park" etc. One of my favorite Sports analogies for recruiting is "Recruiting is a Marathon, and not a sprint". There are those times when you'll make that quick hit placement or sprint, but the majority of them take a longer time. Running a marathon takes preparation, training, mental and physical focus, support from… Continue
