Signs Your Job May be in Danger

So unless you been living under a rock for the past 6 months you must have heard of somebody somewhere talking about a recession or a downturn in our country. Whether you are directly affected because you work in real estate or financial sector, or you are indirectly affected because you work for an advertising-driven consumer software company, truth is you have to pay attention to what all of this means to you and your career.

cheezhead bowing to monster pressure???

earlier today cheezhead had a blog posting regarding a monster.com internal training regarding vision and values for the coming year at the giant recruiting site. after reading the memo (which had me rolling on the floor) the posting was curiously removed from the site. i wonder if cheezhead has bowed to the pressure from either his contact or from monster directly.

China on the Rise - A Visual Take

From a hiring perspective you could just as easily be watching the rise of salaries in China, but if you want a visual illustration as to why the War for Talent in China is so difficult to win, this video comparison of exports in Asia over the past 14 years is just the ticket.

You can actually see China rising up like a Goliath, and dwarfing the other countries in the region.

This export increase is mirrored by the rise in… Continue

Sourcing 1.0 (Sourcing As Name Generation) Has Begun To Show Its Cracks

Sourcing 1.0 (Sourcing as Name Generation) has begun to show its cracks . . . much like the notion of CRM ("the right message to the right customer at the right time") did in the early 2000s. Frankly, most organizations we speak with that are using a Sourcing 1.0 process are just not seeing desired results. Yeah, they may be a very marginal improvement in COH numbers, but there is a coinciding cost as well. Because… Continue

The One Thing That Will Never Change

We live, work, and recruit with a fickle bunch. What they want changes from one day to the next - their likes, dislikes; their job-descriptions - products - home addresses.

Even the way we interact with them changes: Facebook, Plaxo, LinkedIn.

When it comes… Continue

Meet Anna Brekka, "The Most Powerful Woman In the Staffing Industry Builds Community"

By Dave Mendoza, Master Cyberslueth, Affiliate Partner, Job Machine, Inc.

Author of SixDegreesfromDave.com

Anna Brekka is unique for several key reasons, not least of which she is by far the tallest woman in the industry, if not, she may well have the most infectious laugh within it - but I would dare argue, that she is also the most powerful woman in our industry. Recruiting Via New Media

Most people recognize that we are in the middle of a new media revolution, so why aren’t we seeing more recruitment advertising within online broadcasts?

Ok, from a media consumption perspective I’ll admit my household is a little extreme. 99% of all news, video and audio is delivered via the net [continue…

Which offer?

You just got an offer for the services of your consultant from two clients - now what? Well first off this is a good problem to have - it shows that you're doing a good job assessing talent. But this situation does need to be handled delicately from many aspects, especially when there are multiple salespeople & clients involved.

From the client perspective we've got a "first right of refusal policy" that basically says first company to interview gets 24 hours to offer before… Continue

Alexa Changes Algorithm; Readjusts Blog Evaluations

I've never been a big fan of social media measures, but other people like them. "That's the best we have," people tell me.

Alexa, for example, is a longtime favorite for people to gage traffic, despite its obvious and admitted shortcomings. Some bloggers have even taken to using it as a valuation in order to determine ad rates. Maybe not any longer. Alexa changed its algorithm and plenty of people are cheering and weeping. Me, I'm just laughing because I had doubts (and still do)… Continue
