Social Media/Networking is great - Frankly, I like it. But there is also quite a bit to be gained from physical networking as well . . . and face-to-face networking is even more fun when it's not a card-exchanging fest and you have a chance to:
Climb a mountain. Explore the woods. Paddle a whitewater river. Sail the ocean.
Would anyone be interested in recruiters getting together to do the above . . . all the while discussing new ideas and sharing best practices? I…

Digging Into RecruitingBlogs.com
Another in John's series of "brilliant" observations:
Another way of thinking about online community is the flow of activity across the front page of RBC. Each tidbit of conversation, each blogging broadside, each webinar, each chat are like the twinkling lights of a city as you fly over it. The faces, videos, forum postings and events indicate an ongoing set of interesting…

Ok, so I am supposed to come up with some fabulous ideas to recruit physical and occupational therapists. I have exhausted my resources through the national organizations, career builder, craigslist, njville, etc. Does anyone have any other suggestions? We use direct mail for the majority of the time. I would appreciate any feedback!

It's uncharted territory.

I was told by
LinkedIn that they are capping my
"Wireless Jobs" Group at 10,000 members. Knowing that, it's pretty safe to assume that the group will be capped before the end of the day as it's only 2 members shy of 10k.
I've already sent an email petitioning the powers-that-be to extend the cap to 15k, but I've not…

I saw something on this website about Dive, using it seemlessly in the Google search engine to search for resumes. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

As the
BBC reports, LinkedIn have raised £27 million from investors - valuing the 5 year old business at a
billion dollars. Not bad going.
Trick here is going to be what exactly LI are going to use the funds for. Clearly they're in a great position already with first mover advantage in the online business networking space. What I find notable about LinkedIn is that they are one of the…

For starters, it’s helpful to remember that our dream-job requirements often change over time. One job I held in my youth was a dream job at the time but would be impossible for me now because of the working hours. When I was twenty-something and single, I was perfectly happy to sit in a conference room with my workmates, eating cold pizza and talking shop at 8 p.m. Couldn’t, wouldn’t consider that now.
You may have longed for a management role at one time and realize now that’s the…

Inspired by Joel Cheesman's
post about ERE and RecruitingBlogs.com
It's apples and oranges. They are not the same. They don't function the same. the expectations for everyone involved are not the same. They are two very different brands and brands evoke feeling. The feeling between the two is different.
I'm not surprised that ERE is launching a Ning network for the Fordyce Letter. The thing about Ning and the…

Wow - when I see business professionals telling the truth, it's like a breath of fresh air. Wouldn't you agree? So I was reading through my typical morning run of blogs and forums to keep abreast of best practices in the recruiting world, and I see the following comment from
Mike Johnson of Avature (Global Director of Business Development):

Please contact me if your firm specializes in Stellent, Vignette, Documentum, and/or Interwoven technical consultants to add to our projects as needed. At this point, I am not interested in talking to vendors with an off shore model. Once again, I am looking for technology focused boutique firms in the Midwest or West Coast. I look forward to hearing from you.

Domain names are cheap. Websites are pretty easy to develop. There's a proliferation of sites in the social & professional networking scene that allow fairly lengthy profiles to be built. Recruiters are using all of these media to dig deeper into our candidates lives already. We all know this stuff. The question is, when do you think document that we know now will replaced as the "king of resumes"? I don't think they'll ever completely go away, but there is a time in the not so distant…
