Whats the "it" gift for RBC 2009?

I love my Slouch hat but with people making fun of it, I'm becoming a bit gun shy about wearing it in public. In the past, JD and I have talked about mugs and bumper stickers and these might work well but I know there is something out there to really tug on the purse strings of RBC members and hopefully serve as seed money for the community's philanthropic efforts for 2009.

Then I read about… Continue

College recruiting just got more interesting

I love this site; however, I have my doubts that Steven Rothberg wouldn't cringe about some of the content.

General Tso to go - Recruiting abroad...in the US

Now, in a reverse miniature brain drain, Chinese financial institutions are taking advantage of the downturn and focusing on the newly unemployed to diversify and upgrade their own staffs.

“We’re looking very hard right now for experienced, senior-level talent who have knowledge of China. For our junior-level positions, we continue to recruit from our local Chinese talent…

Ways you can charge your job board users

Working in the online recruitment industry, I’m often amazed with the variety of ways job site owners charge the users of their service. My company produces software packages for building job board sites, and we configure these different charging plans for our clients. The first thing that I noticed is that there was no standard business model that job site owner choose. Everyone is trying to use unique model, and it… Continue

It Is Not Too Late To Say Thank You

WESTPORT, Connecticut (December 24, 2008) What Got You Here Won’t Get You There is Marshall Goldsmith’s amazing book on how successful people become more successful. It is a great read for executives who have been fired or for those who are successful in many ways but cannot move to the next level of performance.

Approach towards Smart Recruiting, Poor Economy and Life

Just because I'm losing

Doesn't mean I'm lost

Doesn't mean I'll stop

Doesn't mean I'm in a cross

Just because I'm hurting

Doesn't mean I'm hurt

Doesn't mean I didn't get what I deserve

No better and no worse

I just got lost

Every river that I've tried to cross

And every door I ever tried was locked

Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the shine wears off...

You might be a big fish

In a little pond

Doesn't mean… Continue

What makes me a Smart Recruiter

Below are 5 things that make me a smart recruiter:

5. Know your role as a recruiter. Our role is to work for the client and as an advocate for the candidate. This means that if someone isn't right for your client no matter how much you like them doesn't matter. Helping people, especially in times like these, is a nice thought though we are not social workers. When we do find who we feel is the right candidate however it is up to us to be an advocate for them and convince the client… Continue

Stimulating the economy and employment

Recruiting is far more than closing a job order that fills someone's ego and wallet; it is more than getting that hiring manager off your back. Recruiters are in a unique space that should enable them to experience and mold their services based upon the political, economic, social and technological issues, challenges, products and services of the day. Should because so many still recruit to fill an order and neglect the lower iceberg of factors impact their craft.

These days,… Continue

retainers and partial retainers

A while back I had what is always great conversation with Don Ramer. I enjoy seeing him at shows and we always have fun at night. Last time I saw him he said something interesting to me. At one point he puts his arm around me and says something like do you know the thing about bacon and eggs? I said I like to eat it but I am not sure if that's what you're talking about. He said the chicken made a donation but the pig made a commitment. I think about that all… Continue

"Social networking as a job search tool will explode."

The number of unemployed Americans will continue to grow throughout 2009 and will level out in the first half of 2010, according to Chicago-based Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Employment levels may stay flat until well into 2011 and job creation even then will show only moderate gains. It may be 2013 before we start to see the level of employment growth… Continue

Military Tracking Santa's Sleigh

Who says Santa Claus doesn't exist?

The military personnel charged with being the eyes in the sky are certainly acting like he does — and they've been joined on the Internet by millions of believers.

Even doubters have reason to pause when they hear the North American Aerospace Defense Command — or NORAD, which monitors air and space threats against the U.S. and Canada — is in charge of the annual Christmas mission to keep children… Continue
