Converting Views To Applications

I have recently launched my jobsite www.nuclearcareersonline.com and am getting a good number of jobs and views. However I am only getting 0.5% - 1% conversion from views to applications.

Please can you guys advise me on the best ways of increasing this ratio to 5-10%?

Or is this the Holy Grail of jobsites?

Thanks

Swinging for the Fences...

In true St. Louis “baseball fanatic” fashion I want to talk a little about what I affectionately call the “curve ball”… I was thrown said curve ball late last week and my lack of refinement in my initial response to it immediately reminded me of just how important flexibility and a dynamic attitude can be in recruiting. To be honest, it’s been a little while since I had a pitcher who really “stepped up to the plate” and surprised me – (okay, I’m done with the baseball lingo now, I just wanted… Continue

New Grads: Struggling to get hired??

02.25.09New Grads: Struggling to get hired??Posted in Recruitment tagged Compensation, Employee Retention, IT, New Grad, Recession, Recruiter, Recruiting, Recruitment, Retention at 4:36 pm by sweens

I was sitting here in my office today wondering what I could blog about. I got to thinking and what I ended up focusing on was how ‘new grads’ are likely the largest group within the candidacy pool who will have the greatest struggle finding IT employment in the coming months or years. I… Continue

FREE Job Search webinar: Tomorrow, Feb 26th 1 PM CST

If you are like me you are getting many, many phone calls from job seekers and in many cases you are not able to help them as much as you would like.

I started a web site called Be Your Own Headhunter that has been on my mind since the ’01-’02 Recession. The goal being to help job seekers find a new job or at least make their search easier.

If you have folks you cannot help send them my way and through the webinar…

The Odd Couple: Recruiters and Politicians

NYC Mayor Bloomberg speaks about his plan to create 400,000 new jobs...I was shaking my head when he specifically noted that some of the new jobs will be good paying, many with benefits, jobs that could be created elsewhere. Woo-hoo, the recovery is around the corner.

Now I don't want to sound so flippant but its difficult not to when politicians - even Mayor Mike who knows a thing or two about business - speak so gallantly about job growth: It isn't as simple as… Continue

Web Marketing in the UK Financial Services recruitment market - how effective is it?

As a recruitment consultant or headhunter for the financial services industry in the United Kingdom I get the feeling we're a little behind in comparison to our friends in the States with regards the power of web marketing. Its been widely acknowledged that the financial services industry at the moment is suffering, not just in the UK but across the western world. Candidates are getting harder to pick up as they are bombarded by consultant after… Continue

It's Time To Differentiate ! So What Are You Gonna Do About It?

Passive who? As Elaine from FordyceNetwork posted "A" candidates are available and readily available at that.

If companies can readily find passive and active “A” players on the web, and there are several hundred firms offering web sourcing for pennies on the dollar, and you are not one of them…….. This seems like the right time to reconsider and restructure your business… Continue

Claudia's Wednesday Wisdom

This week Claudia turns her attention to the recruiter as being the root of the problem...and pretty shallow at that!

Asking questions?

Seems as if LinkedIn Answers is highly cited in the recruiter space as the place where one can ask questions and receive answers from the enlightened ones. There are also Forums here as well as on ERE, the spawn of David Manaster's parents.

But for the job seeking, employment questioning, recruiter loathing bourgeois - actually questions about anything, there's Ask Metafilter. Being a recruiter, I enjoy reading questions and… Continue

If a Tree Falls in the Forest...

Dear Claudia,

A friend I went to college with has applied for a position at the company I work for. He's been out of work for a while and definitely has the skills to do the job, but there's a small problem: he lied about graduating and his degree on the resume. We don't verify education in the background check, and I really don't consider this to be a deal breaker; should I just let it slide?

Gatekeeper

Dear Gate Keeper,

I'm not sure I… Continue

The NY Post kills Wall Street pay packages!

...by paying outgoing News Corp President Peter Chernin a severance package worthy of the Wall Street folks they love to hate.

As part of Mr. Chernin’s severance contract, he will receive lucrative television and movie production deals with the company, as well as perks like a car and driver and the use of a private jet. He received a $34 million pay package last year, according to a filing with the Securities & Exchange Commission.

Mr. Chernin’s TV and movie deals…

Twitteriffic Susan Kang Nam Gets Creative with Reasons to Twitter

Award_Image1 by pinkolivefamily. A big question I am often asked about Micro-Blogging service, Twitter, is simply this, "So what do you do on Twitter, just tell people what you're doing?" And my answer is usually, "No". I use Twitter to network with early adopters and people all over the world who have similar interests in social media and web2.0 technology. I post helpful links about careers, employment, and job searching. And I use it to promote my…

No thanks, I just don't like them

There are a plethora of reasons why a manager can (and will) disqualify a candidate. Sometimes this decision is made for a logical reason, other times it seems as though they reject resumes a la cranky toddler rejecting vegetables. If the latter is the case, how and what can a recruiter communicate to the candidate?

I have been in this dilemma before and if the explanation was too outlandish or altogether nonexistent I could be vague and apologize to the candidate that our customer… Continue
