I'm on PCR -- but I am not in love with it. I'm thinking about making a change. Any suggestions?

Tales from a Technology Hero (Zero)

I'm here (this website?) to discuss the comings and goings of an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIST in the wide world of online human resources. In the coming weeks I'd like to tell you what we see from the dark side of the moon (so to speak). We dweebs are incredibly insecure, we don't like to be chastised, and it's clear to all that we are infinitely smarter than everyone else.

So, my soapbox...here is some nonsensical .net framework (3.0) system.net namespace shit I'm dealing with. What, you… Continue

On lying...

"Of course I lie to people. But I lie altruistically - for our mutual good. The lie is the basic building block of good manners. That may seem mildly shocking to a moralist - but then what isn't?"

Quentin Crisp, The Naked Civil Servant

Changing Jobs

This is almost as scary as speaking in public. When you need to change jobs, whether it’s your idea or your company’s, two major fears start. The fear of the unknown and the fear of failure. To help overcome these and problems associated with a job search go to someone who can assist you in the search. Find someone who specializes in your job category and someone who you feel you can trust. How do you know if you can…

Slowed down to a crawl

I come from an agency background. You the know the environment, caffeine fueled, telephone smile and dialing, 100 mph buzz factory. I now work in a corporarate setting. Where things like politics, policy, compliancy, and corporate red tape now play into my recruiting efforts.Anyone else notice a difference in the transition?

On personal brand…

“You're hired, you report to work, you join a team -- and you immediately start figuring out how to deliver value to the customer. Along the way, you learn stuff, develop your skills, hone your abilities, move from

project to project. And if you're really smart, you figure out how to

distinguish yourself from all the other very smart people walking around with

$1,500 suits, high-powered laptops, and…

YouTube killed the Radio Star?

Last month I blogged about YouTube Advertising becoming mainstream, while asking the inevitable employment brandingquestion “When are employers going to join the mainstream?“. I then ended the post by throwing a proverbial line in the water asking for YouTube demographic information, hoping for a bite… Not only did I receive numbers from our friends at HitWise, but information from a Goo-Tuber, and the following comScore…

On preaching to the choir...

"Repeated exposure to one person's viewpoint can have almost as much influence as exposure to shared opinions from multiple people.

This finding shows that hearing an opinion multiple times increases the

recipient's sense of familiarity and in some cases gives a listener a false

sense that an opinion is more widespread then it actually is."

I have a webcam @ my desk!

This could get interesting...as soon as I learn how to use it! Live video job postings and updates right from my very own cube. How convenient! I'm even up for doing webcam interviews instead of over the phone. Oh how I love my job!

On HR 2.0...

"There is a revolution happening right now, the world is changing and it may represent the most significant change in human relations since the industrial revolution. The revolution is the move from manpower to knowledge power and the medium is Web 2.0."

What's your motivation??

I recruit recruiters. During the interview process, one of the most

important things that I look for is what drives them to be great, to be

better than the day before, to graduate from college, to look for a new

job, to enjoy their friends, to workout, to do a cross-word puzzle, to

simply wake up in the morning. It's not a question that I ask during

the interview, because then I'd get some cookie-cutter answer shoved

down my throat and they'd figure out how to… Continue
