25 Random Things ... about IIPE (moving the FB trend to RBC)
1. Despite IIPE being headquartered in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico- not one member of the IIPE team is a native to Playa Del Carmen.
2. Karen Russo, CEO has been recruiting for over 20 years.
3. IIPE meetings usually take place after the work week; on the beach... we all actually really like one another and don't mind spending a Saturday on the beach to strategize.
4. The IIPE team speaks…

The global economy has gotten so bad that Japan and some countries in Europe have tried to save jobs by implementing "work-sharing" programs. Here in the U.S., employers are equally concerned with keeping employees on staff, while still cutting costs. Their response is to implement furloughs. Furloughs are unpaid days off and Dr. John Sullivan, in his article for ERE,
Employee Furloughs Can Be a Bad… Continue

It's a common sight at conferences whether it's ERE, ASA, local staffing conferences or job fairs - droves of people with "
bags of swag". Along with this phenomena, comes the related "
swag swap" where you get together with colleagues and make strategic trades of promotional products for their most important clients (translation get the stuffed toy for their son, daughter, nephew or niece). There is nothing like watching staffing professionals in tense negotiations, "I will give…

Establishing a new telephone account the other day, I noted that there was going to be monetary credit if I simply logged on to the cell phone company's home page and filled out a simple survey. Obviously I am going to take full advantage of such an offer, so I dutifully went online, filled out the survey, clicked their "submit" button and then checked my account balance. No credit. "Okay," I thought, "maybe it takes 24 hours for their system to credit the account. I'll check…

Imagine the shock when I actually had a candidate tell me this on the phone today. His statement was so matter-of-fact that it blew my mind. He was adamant about it too, completely unwavering in his opinion. Fast forward through several minutes of conversation and although his tone had lightened, he stuck to his guns. "Think what you want, but I'm still convinced recruiters are jerks…"
What could possibly have led him to such a fervent belief? Why automatically classify all…

Twitter is officially a viable recruiting tool, we all know that. It's also pretty easy to record your success, especially when others do it for you. Big thanks to
@thecoleorton for documenting a recent hire I had through Twitter.

I've been watching candidates interview for years as I would always ask my client to sit in during the conversation. The one thing I've quickly noticed is the candidate’s inability to close the interview. What do I mean by closing the interview; I'm talking about gaining the right to advance through to the next round.
If you ask most people this question, "Are you a Salesperson?" the instant response is "no way" or "I could never do that" or "I can't sell anything." That is simply…

I have recently launched my jobsite www.nuclearcareersonline.com and am getting a good number of jobs and views. However I am only getting 0.5% - 1% conversion from views to applications.
Please can you guys advise me on the best ways of increasing this ratio to 5-10%?
Or is this the Holy Grail of jobsites?
Thanks

In true St. Louis “baseball fanatic” fashion I want to talk a little about what I affectionately call the “curve ball”… I was thrown said curve ball late last week and my lack of refinement in my initial response to it immediately reminded me of just how important flexibility and a dynamic attitude can be in recruiting. To be honest, it’s been a little while since I had a pitcher who really “stepped up to the plate” and surprised me – (okay, I’m done with the baseball lingo now, I just wanted…

If you are like me you are getting many, many phone calls from job seekers and in many cases you are not able to help them as much as you would like.
I started a web site called Be Your Own Headhunter that has been on my mind since the ’01-’02 Recession. The goal being to help job seekers find a new job or at least make their search easier.
If you have folks you cannot help send them my way and through the webinar…
