The primary reason quite frankly I got into recruiting is that my experience with most recruiters while I was an employee doing marketing and business development (for 18 years) stunk. Really, getting a cold call from someone who wastes your time and doesn't have a clue what the difference between someone doing Business Development and Sales was pathetic.

I got an email today that "made my day."
Yeah, I know, it's not all about me, but I really dig it when somebody takes the time to send a nice email, note, thank you card, whatev. It shows there's still a few good souls out there in the world who perceive the value of:

I understand this may be an unusual post, so bear with me for a moment. I've recruited a great deal of 'Elizabeth'-named candidates. Most reply with 'Liz' after establishing some dialogue and a relationship. You know what I mean -- after a couple conversations, people let down the whole-name barrier and let the gate down slightly. The force of globalization and increased movement of workers, coupled with the general lowering of travel costs would indicate a willingness of companies to incur in travel expenses to invite a candidate for an interview, when they are unable to fill a position locally and out-of-state or foreign applicants have the required skills, such as experience in a specific industry or company.

Candidates do not like to apply to postitions when companies advertise vacancies in a vacuum.
Often, companies do not state the name of the company or the salary range for the vacancies they advertise. Insted, they use words such as "Multinational Telecom Company", or "Magic Circle Law Firm" and are silent or vague when it comes to salary. Ask a job seeker where he or she would start their online job search. Jobster certainly wouldn’t be at the top of their list, since it primarily branded itself within the HR and Recruiting community. I quickly started 3 job searches on Google using a keyword and location, and a Jobster result did appear on the first page of results in 2 of the 3 searches. I’ve heard it said that branding is all about getting yourself noticed. I’d tend to disagree – at least I’d tend to disagree today. It’s my opinion that personal branding only begins with getting noticed.
