It is an interesting role, being a sourcer and supporting multiple recruiters. These folks are good at what they do, so when you have a recruiter stuck in a race to get that talent to the hiring manager, there may be a good sourcer behind that magic. So, how to become one of the best sourcer(ers), a worker of magic?
1. Learn the job backwards and forwards. I study my JD as best I can. I want to know the role, live it, breathe it. I see the essentialness of this every day.

Sorry about the title - I've always wanted to be an evil genius, but I seem to be missing both the evil and the genius part.
Chris Russell built the JobsinSocialMedia social network for social media folks, and with my focus in the industry, it made sense to reach out and snag it.

I keep reading and hearing about the doom and gloom of this economy, and that jobs are being lost faster than they are being created, (and the world is falling apart, well....). At Cool Works, we are paying close attention to the world around us and have our own concerns, but I thought I would add some bright spots of working in the seasonal world for those willing to think outside the box. And yes, I am considered to be a glass half-full sort of person.
1. Employers are still…

Today I want to post about "talking" as a sourcing tool. Recruiters often tell me that they have searched every paid resume board, all the freebies, LinkedIn, the ATS, etc. and they just can't find anyone that fits the spec. That is when I typically recommend that they try a low tech tool - the telephone! If you have checked every site in your arsenal and can't find anyone - maybe there is a true shortage or maybe there is something wrong with the way you are searching or the pitch you are…

Is it possible to be too aggressive in the search for a job? I say NO, in some cases I am sure it’s happened however more commonly job seekers tend to send a resume or fill out an application and then wait and then, well ….wait some more. To those job seekers I say….get out there and make it happen! If it’s a job you want and think you are the ideal candidate follow up and make sure you are don’t become just another applicant in a pile of applications.
Just yesterday I was…

As more and more people are hunting for jobs a lot of their interview experiences feel a lot like they are chasing their own tails. Unfortunately working with the wrong recruiter can do this to you and may cost you your next job.
In the mindset of the unemployed there is no job that they can’t do, but unfortunately there are lots of jobs for which our clients won’t hire them. However, if you’re working with a highly skilled recruiter they can tell you quickly if your skills are even…

Joanna Barsh, Susie Cranston and Rebecca A. Craske,
A new approach to leadership can help women become more self-confident and effective business leaders.
Women start careers in business and other professions with the same level of intelligence, education and commitment as men. Yet comparatively few reach the top echelons.

When I was really young, my Mommy and Daddy told me that there is no such thing as a Monster and playing with Dice looked like gambling to them. And look at me now, I am grown up and I have my own personal Monster and Dice. I play with them everyday. But think of this, what if Mom-Dad were correct? What if I want to follow their advice? Where will I find people from, apart from these Social Networks?

When I read this, I question where will all the radioactive material go once the ten years are up?
Small and Nuclear
Say the words “nuclear reactor” and you probably imagine a vast complex with cooling towers, radiation symbols plastered everywhere, and Homer Simpson asleep at the controls. That’s not what John Deal has in mind. Deal, the CEO of year-old New Mexico startup Hyperion, has licensed technology from the labs at Los Alamos that lets him build safe, small…

After months of failed attempts in Congress to extend crucial renewable energy tax credits, the end-game came with lightning speed Friday afternoon: The House of Representatives passed the green incentives attached to the financial bailout package approved by the Senate Wednesday night and President Bush promptly signed the legislation into law.
There were goodies for wind, geothermal and alternative fuels, but the big…

What was a little fuzzy last month has become clearer of late: The sagging economy is weighing on Google (GOOG).
Goldman Sachs analyst James Mitchell cited signs of weakness in search advertising - Google’s biggest moneymaker by far — in cutting his revenue growth target for the current fourth quarter from 4% to 1%.
Mitchell is the second analyst this week to lower estimates for Google. On Monday Barclays analyst Doug Anmuth called for…
