I'm writing a post on Phoenix, and if you're from there, write a blog there, or have something to say about the town, now's the time to let me know.
In what will be a regular feature, I'll be covering the landscape of different cities that recruit, working my way across the internet in search of new and exciting trends from a local recruiting level.
If you want your city profiled, or if you have something about Phoenix, please let me know.
So far I've got…

My friend,
Evelyn Rodriguez has a
great post this morning on her blog, based on a quote that I love:
"Either you repeat the same conventional doctrines everybody is saying, or else you say something true, and it will sound like it's from Neptune."
- Noam Chomsky
I love this quote, because it is a good reminder that it is not…

Hi Folks;
Happy New Year!
A large and steady client for over a decade is requiring its vendors to use the bounty portal.
As a seasoned recruiter I find no value in bounty and it takes out the human element and surtaxes my fee.
Has anyone had this experience and how did they remedy the situation?
Thank you!

I titled this post to focus on recruiting
not politics...I'd like to see more candidates take the suggestions below (in case you don't feel like reading the article):
Use a Modified Name
Using a completely false name is against Facebook's terms of use, and accounts with questionable names are routinely deleted...so something like J.S. McCain is OK, while Little Old Ladys Killer (an actual Facebook listing) might… Continue

My company Chronos Consulting has several thousand relatively recent vacancies in the oil and gas sector globally - places like Spain, Russia, Argentina, Brazil, Middle East etc. You can check these out at www.chronosconsulting.com or any of the thirty oil and gas groups we have on ning and LinkedIn e.g. Think Oil !. We have been working mainly with foreign majors but now we have been engaged by several US majors. This month we are also acquiring the assets of a publically listed mining and oil…

[this has nothing to do with recruiting; just used the word recruiter to get the eyeballs]
Saying
your fly is open is so old school. So whenever you see a recruiter with their barn door wide open, try some of these:
- Dr. Kimble has escaped!
- I can see the gun of Navarone.
- The cucumber has left the salad.
- Your pod bay door is open, Hal.
- Your soldier ain't so unknown now.
- Elvis Junior has LEFT the…

Lake Superior State University "maverick" word-watchers, fresh from the holiday "staycation" but without an economic "bailout" even after a "desperate search," have issued their 34th annual List of Words to Be Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-use, Over-use and General Uselessness. This year's list may be more "green" than any of the previous lists and includes words and phrases that people from "Wall Street to Main Street" say they love "not so much" and wish to have erased from… Continue

The common practice, when looking at the prospects of selecting the right individual for an overseas assignment, is usually to focus on the individual’s technical/functional skills, with the assumption that it will be sufficient to operate successfully across borders. I recently collaborated with Brian Sun, Managing Partner from Orion China, on a presentation to visiting US EMBA students, from Purdue University (Chicago), aimed at highlighting the characteristics of leaders who can seamlessly…

Digging Into RecruitingBlogs.com v 2.01
(Jan 02, 2009) I'm entering this new year with a problem. These days, more than half of my communications are through social networks like RBC, Facebook and Twitter. More natural and less formal than freestanding email systems, each tool has its own utility and its own idiosyncrasies.
Twitter offers a flow of really fresh professional information tinged with…

Well, 2008 came to us on a high note and ended on what many have said is the lowest of lows. Mortgage crisis, housing decline and the US automotive industry on brink of collapse were the highlights of the low lights.
Going into 2009, what can we expect recruiting? I do not have a crystal ball, or even a magic eight ball, but I would venture to say to following should happen in your departments during the upcoming year:…

I joined this group because of my affinity for recruiting having served as a professional recruiter for 25+ years for a well established Executive Search firm. Today we operate a resume and interview coaching service and cater to the very same audience.
How often do you see worthy job applicants with weak resumes? A simple referral to us will yield a strengthened résumé thus enhancing their marketability. Consider how this no cost, nothing to lose investment will boost… Continue

This week John turns the New Years' page to open a new chapter only to find an old problem: social media overwhelm...
"I can't figure out how to streamline my communication process. I'd like a single interface for some of the things I do on each of the systems...I'm dropping too many balls."
Help John and the rest of us out if you the panacea for posting-ping-ping pottiness:

A year is not a very long time in
the overall scheme of things. Online, time seems to be compressed in ways that defy imagination. We measure our time and attention span in the language of machines. We live at such a frenetic pace that rarely do we stop to pause and reflect.
Change happens in front of our very eyes but we often miss it. In so doing we miss out on developing a level of appreciation for things that should come…

1. I have an innate interest in people.
2. I'm curious about people.
3. I like people.
4. I like talking to people.
5. I'm a very good listener.
And they can tell that about me and in turn they tell me EVERYTHING about themselves, and before I know it, I understand their value system and if I'm able, I can either engage them as a candidate, or provide them better service as a hiring manager. It's really that easy.
