It is true, tough times are out there and it appears that corporate recruiters should feel as though things are unstable.
I was released by my most recent employer a few weeks ago due to the economic slow down......have you heard about it?
Seriously, it is a tough market out there for us right now. Corporate Recruiters are not doing a bunch of recruiting right now which is kind of silly. With the immense amount of talented people on the market you would think many…

HRMToday has a very interesting and amusing story about a
rejected candidate that was eventually hired and became a star player. It’s a great anecdote and reminder of a couple things:
1. We reject too easily.
2. We always benefit by treating people well.
The big question is really this: How do you treat rejected candidates? And can it be done in such a way that diminishes the negative…

I am sitting here thinking about writing another blog, as I am trying to build awareness around my company Shift BPM. I have been in the recruiting industry for many years and I have plenty of staffing and consulting information I can give, and I will. But I realized that as I am reading everyone's blogs, most of them have one thing in common the personal information. Now I am not saying I want to tell all here and give you my life's story, but couldn't it be said that relating life to…

The 90’s have come and gone, but most people are now keenly aware that candidates interview their potential companies now as much as the companies interview them, and from where I stand the next evolution in the interview process will be candidate’s beginning to truly interview their future boss.
Let’s face it you can like the company and your co-workers, but there is no bigger influence on your day to day happiness, and impact on your career progression than that of the person to…

Recruitment Marketing - Dispelling the 5 myths
Myth #1: Young talented individuals need to go to larger Metropolitan areas (e.g., Northern Virginia, Atlanta and Charlotte) to find inspiring, challenging jobs or exciting companies to work for.
Myth #2 : There is not enough qualified talent to fill my job openings.
Myth #3: Posting jobs in the newspaper is a…

A Bachelor of Science degree (major in Chemistry, Biology, Molecular, etc.) is not necessary, but it is helpful in medical sales, clinical diagnostics sales, laboratory sales, DNA products sales, sales of medical or surgical supplies, medical device sales, pharmaceutical sales, or any healthcare sales. So don’t bury it at the bottom of your resume where I have to search for it. Candidates who don’t have a BS try to hide that fact in various ways, but if you have yours, display it proudly. (But…

Obviously we've all blogged before as anyone reading this is a member of recruiting blogs. Blogging has been great for me so far for sharing insight between recruiters or posing questions to other experts. What about blogging with your candidates? I've tried to back door it where I go onto an ASCE blogging site, but they're usually not open to recruitment topics there and instead are talking about the safety hazards of the Aurora bridge, etc. ( I recruit civil engineers).
Recently,…

A great deal of job interview and career advice focuses on preparing a well-written resume, dressing for success, and the do's and don'ts of job interview questions. However, it is also very important to pay attention to other factors that might impact whether or not prospective employers are likely to view you as a good job candidate.
One of the most important, and most often overlooked, aspects of preparing for a job search is actually related to your telephone. Most home and cell…

As technology becomes more and more advanced, it seems like the world is getting smaller and smaller. The phrase "global economy" is mentioned in the media quite a bit, and it does accurately describe the 21st Century marketplace. Conducting business across international borders is becoming commonplace in just about every industry there is.
As businesses engage in strategic planning to capitalize on the global marketplace, their plans partially revolve around hiring a workforce that…

Blog post contests have been around a while and are really
quite ingenious if you think about it. They help increase readership,
provide unique content and incoming links, all of which are great for search engine visibility.
I am competitive in nature and have been known to enter a contest from time to time, my latest being the blog contest held by The Talent Buzz.
Those of you who don't know of…
