“And you are….? And you are here because…? And you are looking for…?...”
Many years ago there was a funny skit on Saturday Night Live about an absolutely clueless - and very obnoxious, receptionist who did not recognize very recognizable celebrity characters when they arrived at his desk. The receptionist would ask multiple questions like the ones above. The skit would go on and on with the questions and answers becoming more and more ridiculous.
I often feel like that…

Do you even remember who sent you the very first invitation to join
LinkedIn?
I didn't.
The invitation seemed so inconsequential at the moment, I'm not sure I even gave it a second thought.
Until recently.
Without question,…

Ok, I have grown rather fond of meebo and the meebome widget. I found that I can embed the meebome widget in comments, up obviously it disappears after people leave comments for me. I tried seeing if there is a gadget, but no one has create one yet. Does anyone know of a way to have the widget permanently placed on my page? I have placed the widget in my comment section, so that you can see what it is, and if I am on, you can IM me :)

I’ve seen several speakers recently comment on the fact that it is coming to a world where everyone has access to ALL the contact data. The concept was furthered in saying that since everyone will have all the data, the playing field will be leveled as everyone will have total access, ergo, it will come down to the ability to network as the sole determiner of success.
The second part of this concept, (ability to network) has always has been dead on. A poor salesperson or recruiter…

Tips to building a more powerful practice
Thursday, March 13, 2008 | by Kevin Wheeler
I am sitting in Vermont this morning reading a local newspaper with the headline: "Vermont lost 2,000 jobs last year." But the article does not attribute this to the slowing economy; instead, it attributes it to the aging workforce.
Now, Vermont is a tiny state and certainly does not represent most of the United States. Its unemployment rate is low, its workforce a mix of…

Who are the most influential people in the UK online recruitment market today? Is it recruiters with their significant buying power, or corporate employers with their substantial job inventories? Or is it the online publishers and job board owners who control the methods of reaching huge job seeker audiences? Actually, I think it’s job posting services and here’s why.…

I read an article today by
Matt Asay, which makes me wonder if Google are turning to blatant sexual stereotyping to aid their recruiting? Surely not I hear you cry, Google exploiting certain market sectors to get what they want?
Matt mentions that one of his friends was in San Jose for a corporate event. While waiting at the Marriott, he ran into a "swarm of beautiful young girls" that were "uniform in their good…

As it is a Friday and it is always good to have a laugh on Fridays I thought I would share some mad, wacky and strange ' interest's, that I have come across on CV's this week. These are all definitely classified as "don't put these interests on your CV" :
1. Chinese Folk Dancing
2. Dog Surfing (???)
3. Painting toy soldiers from the Crimea War
4. Abnormal psychology of sharks
5. Ladybirds (??)
6. Medieval Re-enactment Society
7. Vampires

Thanks to Cheezhead for a great post on the horrendous mismanagement at Monster. It looks like the culture of impropriety that plagued the previous senior management team is continuing unabated with the new team.

As you will recall, the head of Advertising.com, Lynda Clarizio, has just been promoted to run AOL's broader ad-network group, Platform A. Lynda is taking the place of Curt Viebranz, who got canned last Friday.
Lynda's first order of business, one source says, is to integrate Tacoda, Quigo, and other recent acquisitions into Advertising.com. Advertising.com has been run as a stand-alone subsidiary, with a separate ad sales force from AOL's (which caused some friction). Our tipster…

Mediapost - by Wendy Davis
AOL is hemorrhaging ad executives, but that hasn't stopped the company from agreeing to pay $850 million to acquire social networking site Bebo.
In a deal announced this morning, AOL said it has agreed to purchase the 3-year-old U.K.-based site, which claims 40 million worldwide members. Factoring in the number of people using its instant messaging services, AOL now can say its social network reaches 80 million unique users…

Looking out my window this morning here in East Aurora, NY (and wondering when Spring will officially arrive!) a particular quote comes to mind:
“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. ”
Charles L. Allen
Seemed apprpriate for not only the current weather and climate, but also for those of us in Sales and Recruiting.
Food for…
