Employee Benefits: What Trends to Expect in 2009

In the upcoming year, many employers will find it difficult to expand their employee benefits in a time when the company may be suffering as a result of the poor economy. Although there may not be a large shift in the benefits offered to employees in 2009, workers will need to be realistic in their expectations and understand that everyone from top to bottom is feeling the affects of the recession.

In a tight economy, employers will be hesitant to make drastic changes to their… Continue

Making a "To Don't" List

As we all know, it is that time of year again when whether we like it or not, thoughts start running through our heads like "this really is going to be the year that I lose those 25 pounds, stop smoking, start seriously exercising, will swear off karaoke or will stop trying to over-think my football picks."

It's an easy list to remember because for most of us it's same list as last year.

So when I got my issue of… Continue

What Makes Me a Smart Recruiter?

I’m Real. I market, use technology and source just like the next recruiter; what you see, hear or read from me is what you get. I honor and respect all relationships and don’t take them lightly whether it’s a client or fellow recruiter. I believe in doing the right thing even if it means I may lose money or business.

I believe in and see the good in people; candidates, clients and my fellow recruiters. My glass is always FULL and like the Velveteen Rabbit being connected and… Continue

How Many Friends Does It Take To Be An Expert?

In between some satire, there always seems to be some seriousness in conversations about online authority. Some social media participants want to measure this stuff, even if it for the sole purpose of vanity or perhaps selling snake oil.

There is enough of it that Jennifer Leggio lent a near perfect expose entitled "Twitter popularity does not equal business acumen" on ZDNet. The article mentions several reasons that online popularity doesn't equal much of anything. Her hope was to… Continue

What makes me a Smart Recruiter

Want to be a smart recruiter? Do the OPPOSITE of this!

  • Fling resumes at job orders without talking to candidates. Clients LOVE receiving unqualified resumes and Candidates Love having their resume sent to companies without your permission.
  • Submit candidate resumes to clients without qualifying them.
  • Do NOT under ANY circumstances waste your time keeping the submitted candidate apprised of the status of the job order!
  • And for heaven's sake,…

Russian Roulette In Executive Search

This is a blog post that I wrote for my healthcare Board Chairs and Hospital CEOs in September. Before I discovered this wonder group. Mo's Sweet Sixteen

Okay, so she's not 16 (perhaps a multiple but as one who is also a multiple of 16...plus - I can say these things) but it's still her birthday. Who?

Amy Beth may be a Princess (fine, a Goddess) but Happy Birthday to the real Queen of Sourcing.

Are you one? Are you two? Are you... Whew, I'm tired already!

Selling Jobs With Honesty ( A Radical Suggestion, I Know ...)

The best person to sell a new job to a candidate is the one who is actually doing the job right now. Selling by brochure, by company values, or by marketing material is simply less effective.

Instinctively we all agree with this, but how do we know it is true?. Surely there is value to selling the company hard, and creating some excitement about the position. Well, there is actual research to back the idea that an honest approach is the best approach.

The psychological… Continue

Smart Recruiter Yet Brilliant Recruiter?

A brilliant yet (smart) recruiter goes beyond the obvious in qualifying not only the candidate(s) but the client(s) as well. Where some recruiters fall short is in not truly knowing both the client and candidate to make the deal happen.

Now please understand that not all clients and candidates are truthful in acceptance and intentions and/or other offers, etc; now some clients don’t like to share other candidates skill sets (ranking in better qualified candidates) in the process. A… Continue
