A few days back I saw the first ever job posting on Indeed advertising for a "Talent Community Manager". (Kudos to Deluxe for taking a huge step forward in recruiting and leveraging this opportunity). Using social media for recruitment takes time, technology and people and they "get that"
Considering Facebook alone as over 300 million users, ½ of which log in to their account in a given day it would not be surprised to see other organizations follow their lead and take advantage of… Continue

The Center for Marketing Research at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth just released an in-depth study of how the fastest growing private companies use Social Media to market their businesses.
Here is a summary of interesting findings from the study:
Over 90% of Inc. 500 companies use social networks for marketing and branding.
75% of all responding Inc. 500 companies classified themselves as “very familiar” with Social Networking. And an incredible 91% of… Continue
In the 70’s it was quite common to see men with thick bushy chest hair and a sporty moustache. Today, we are clean, shaven, groomed, waxed, and polished to a shiny gleam.
Hiring managers in Corporate America discriminate against men with moustaches and beards. Now I know a lot of you have some facial hair and you’re gonna get pissed after reading this. And Rightfully so. You worked hard to get that Justin Timberlake thin razor cut (aka The Rap Industry… Continue

I am thankful that it seems like the worst of the recession is behind us. Organizations have started recruiting people and that is such a welcome sign.
The problem with working as an expatriate in the Middle East that your life and future in the country depends on your job. If one loses their job and cannot find another one, they have to dismantle their life here and leave.
Recession was hitting us this time last year in UAE. Retrenchments had started and I remember that… Continue

I just talked to an HR Manager who told me that they had a no-headhunting policy, so I wasn’t allowed to talk to their people … what a terrific idea! Or maybe not.
I know of companies who train receptionists to block recruiters’ calls, and ensure that Monster and Workopolis are banned from company internet. Heck, while they’re at it, why not block LinkedIn, Twitter and halt conference attendance and rendezvous’ with former colleagues and miscellaneous strangers in coffee… Continue
Last week was the UK’s first recruitment unconference and it was certainly an interesting event. I was working the Social Media Track with @mattalder and @carveconsulting. Anyone who knows Matt and Paul will know how knowledgeable both are when it comes to social media; I cannot tell you how much I learned from them throughout the day!
Internal Recruiters are the Mr (or Ms or Miss or Mrs) Cellophane's of the corporate world, the poor cousin of the HR team. Like the old adage internal recruiters should be seen and not heard. (I disagree by the way, I've just seen this ideal a bit)
Your part of the company, but not really. You don't build or sell the widgets, you don't set policy, you don't deliver the business solutions to clients. You don't actually make money for the company, you… Continue
I beleive gratitude is expressed through a positive outward action. In order for others to know we are grateful for them being in our life, or for them doing something that enriches our lives, we must open the hole in our face and tell them!!!!.........Hugs work 2 !!

TONIGHT- Tuesday Nov 24th 7pm (Also Live meeting with Mike Karczewski at Lombard office Illinois)
Its been a challenging year for me and through it all, I can truly say I'm thankful.
I have terrific friends and family members who give me encouragement and support. My brother in Conn. is paying to fly me out to his home for Christmas. My friends have listened to my personal and business "woes."
And just yesterday, I received word that one client plans to make an offer this week to one of my candidates (who is prepared to accept the offer), and another client will likely… Continue

This was originally posted on the site I do my blogging regularly - called Adoptivefamiles.com and when I saw that people were doing it here, it made me want to participate as well. This one is not geared as much towards adoption or infertility so I thought it was worthwhile to share with this community - hope you enjoy!
In honor of Thanksgiving, some of my Facebook friends have been playing the 'Facebook Status Thankful Game,' where we post a status to reflect what we are… Continue

HR-A Customer Service Evangelist's Position on Recruiting
written by Margo Rose
Reflections on the unconference TruLondon
Today was an auspicious event: Trulondon an unconference planned by Bill Boorman, and his merry band of geniuses. I have admired Bill from afar because he embodies something sorely missing from the industry of recruiting: a heart of gold.
It has been an honor to participate in Bill’s blogradio show over the past… Continue

If a picture is worth 1000 words, then what does a poorly lit, slightly blurry, badly cropped, taken with a camera phone image say about a networker? I think that in most cases it probably says, “I am new to social networking and am just trying to figure this out. It was the only one I had, and I was trying to build my profile while keeping the kids from shaving the cat with my husband’s electric razor” But I am an optimist and willing to give a person the benefit of the doubt. There is another… Continue
The job search process is at times daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. When I was an outplacement consultant I suggested the following concepts to my clients. Looking for a job is like a competitive event. The job search athletes who learn to employ the best strategies shorten their transition time and win.
The five best practices that most professionals employ include:
HR-Thanksgiving-My Gratitude List
23rd November 2009 written by Margo Rose
For those of us in HR-every day-is one to give thanks. Passionate about my work, writing gives me an outlet for my creativity.
Many people, like myself, find themselves unemployed right before the holidays. It’s hard to give thanks during a recession. Transition has its challenges. However, I can find so many things for which I can give thanks.
I wrote and posted this blog some weeks ago and got a lot of feedback. But that feedback got me thinking about the whole topic and after 10 years in a Uk HR Comms agency and 6 years building job board business I felt a wder debate woud be interesting.
So tomorrow at 12.30 GMT at www.jobsiteadvisor.com I will stream a panel debate on the topic is Employer Branding still Relevant in 2009. The panel includes leading EB practitioners; Sue… Continue

Social Media, it's been a topic for more than a few conversations in 2009. From Oprah, to Iran, to Michael Jackson, and Starbucks, this has been the year that social media became mainstream. Quantcast reports that Twitter has grown from 6 million to 24 million from January-October 2009 while FaceBook boasts adding more than 1.5 million new users daily.… Continue
