In speaking with recruiters on a daily basis, I’m often asked about Twitter. What is it? How does it work? How can it help me as a recruiter? etc. In my opinion Twitter is a fantastic recruiting tool and also a great tool for people who are looking for a job.
If I were a recruiter I would have a link in my email signature that encourages job seekers to “
follow me on Twitter“. Then I would offer to alert them every time I find out about a…

My desk is situated in either a very fortunate or unfortunate position depending on who you ask. I'm close enough to a window to see what the weather is doing if I feel so inclined, but more importantly I am located right next to the door leading to the exit of the building. If I were the clock watching type it would mean a very speedy exit at the end of the day, but since I am not, I instead get to witness the mass exodus.
As I witness this take place each afternoon I begin to…

People are running to and fro suspended in disbelief regarding the economic downturn and the announcement of ever increasing layoffs. Passions are at a high, and people are lucky to get a job is the general view all around. Does that leave no room for negotiation I was asked? If I get selected, can I still negotiate salary or are they simply going to select the next person out of the 100 applicants. What am I to do?
Lets talk about Jennifer.
Jennifer is a mid level systems…

With the President calling for a

...aggregate amount of $400,000 a year, to be paid monthly, and in addition an expense allowance of $50,000 to assist in defraying expenses… Continue

To hire
top talent you must have something valuable to offer them. You probably think I am talking about valuables like salaries and benefits. No, these are not valuables, these are basic need requirements. Valuables are more substantive and far more important.
The valuables I’m referring to are 1) A sound business model, and 2) Great leadership.
No one wants to work for…

For the most part I decided to take the last part of 2008 off. I hung out on RBC…….learned to Twitter…… built my Linkedin network to a sizeable number (Thanks Dave!)…..and for the most part – watched our profession gradually curl up into a little ball – wondering if/when it will be OK to come out. I would venture to say I’ve seen more “Is our profession dead? ” posts than “Hey – guess what? I’m winning!” posts. I'm not just talking about RBC - I get around to them all - ERE, Fordyce, etc. So…
