There is a large, growing population that views recruiting as a useless profession. They find recruiters to be greedy, selfish and more concerned with their commission than the candidates. Used car salesmen are starting to get a better rep.
As a seasoned recruiter, this quite…

Today was a big day for my family. My daughter, Kennedy, went to her first day of Kindergarten. She is our first child, and I remember her being born just like it was yesterday. Those of you who have children can relate to this experience. Your kids may be older, but I can guarantee that you remember that specific day. Those of you who have younger children will…

Please don't flame me if I've been in a coma because I was unaware of this.
I'm a headhunter in Detroit and 20 minutes ago I received an e-mail from Indeed.com enticing me to search resumes in their database. There's a big, BOLD announcement that they're getting 2 Million resumes per month. (Wow!)
I clicked on the conveniently provided link to "Search…

Social Media is the NEXT BIG THING in recruiting. Don’t believe me? Ask anyone who sells social media services…
We had a real treat on the Recruiting Animal Show this week. The guest was Jason Ginsberg of Brandemix. Animal started the show by questioning the guest’s previous claim that LinkedIn…

I'm still in a pissy mood after participating in today's Recruiting Animal Show starring Michael Kelemen and with guest (I'm not saying). For those of you with iPhones, you can listen to it at 1.5X speed to cut the pain to your mind shorter.
I can…

This has been an interesting summer for me as a headhunter. I discovered two things dedicated to recruiting (in general): The Recruiting Animal Show (hosted by Michael Kelemen supposedly somewhere in Canada) and recruitingblogs.com. I’ve learned so much! In addition to that, I've gotten to read and hear all about how so many out there hate recruiters/headhunters…

In 1957 Jerry Lee Lewis recorded "A Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On". It was an upbeat, feel- good song that topped the charts at #3 on the US pop charts. The lyrics were contagious and has had dozens of other artists release the single since Jerry Lee released it back in 1957. Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Chubby Checker, The Georgia Satelites, Elton John, Conway Twitty are just a few of the artists…

***This post was originally posted on Bulls Eye Recruiting (www.wthomsonjr.com) and has been extremely controversial. Love to hear your thoughts.
There has been a lot written about the job market lately. “The good jobs” aren’t posted anymore. Don’t apply to jobs on the Internet! Don’t bother putting your resume in…

I live, eat, and breathe recruiting. I came into the industry in an entry level role and tried to learn as much as possible through asking endless amounts of questions and watching/listening to recruiters around me. I have done pretty well and have been fortunate to be successful in this world of mine. I am now a Partner and the …

I have spent a lot of time involved in the UK recruitment market. I have lived there, worked there, and owned and run recruitment businesses there, until very recently. For the past decade I have visited London at least twice a year, often more. So I speak from personal experience when I say there has not been much positive to report from the UK, recruitment-wise, since about 2008.
However, over the past 2 weeks I got a very pleasant surprise. I was in London to speak to four groups…

Practically every single company I’ve ever seen cited by all the social media/employer branding experts as a model in recruitment excellence have been a massive multinational with an almost omnipresent consumer brand.
Are you going to pick-up any useful scraps from the big boy’s table about how you can recruit better from reading any of these…

Recently I received a resume from a young lady that had just graduated with a master’s degree in Oceanography looking for a position. She sent this to me in hopes that she would be chosen to work for the company I had a contract with. She like so many hopefuls she applied on line and waited to hear if she was chosen or not. She was. She had the schooling and…

One week from today, Suzie started her fit.
Frank told Suzie to do her job, and not rely on gossip as a source for references.
Like the Tasmanian devil on Saturday morning, Suzie started to spin. Her thin skin couldn't take it. She was the HR person! This was her domain! How dare Frank tell her what to do!
Using her power, she behaved badly. Her target was Frank. Her reach was far greater. She spun and spun and spun until she drew attention to herself. Frank looks like…
