The Recruited Talent Social Media Strategy

Lately there have been spirited conversations in the recruitment world pertaining to the viability of social media as the replacement solution for job boards and traditional recruitment models. Basically the internet has a very wide reach and has become socially interactive, but most recruiters disagree as to which strategy is best for recruiting top talent. To add to that debate, many from the old school of recruiting have argued that relationship building remains the key in connecting…

Talent is King

By Rob Segall

Talent is the lifeblood of innovation. A company that truly believes talent makes the difference will thrive even in the harshest of

economies. Ask Cisco. Ask HP. Better yet, ask Apple.

When the dotcom bubble burst at the end of 2000, Apple took advantage of the rarest of opportunities and went on a hiring spree. While

companies were folding, downsizing, and freezing hiring tickets, Apple…

The honest recruiter

I had a baby recently; with that in mind I may have gained a few extra pounds which has taken me out of my normal clothing size into one I would rather not divulge at this time.

Recently I saw a top online and tried to order it via the phone, the very kind and brutally honest saleswoman explained that it does not come in such a large size and she couldn’t help me (serves me right for trying to buy designer when I should stick with the high street). Although the message was delivered… Continue

Do you know about www.RecruitingBlogs.com?

As a seasoned Recruiter I have been extremely frustrated with how to practically apply the use of “Social Media” to my full desk environment. The more times I posted positions to my LinkedIn signature, groups, et cetera the more silence I seem to have been creating. As my frustration reached a…

The Need for Speed

‘I feel the need…the need for speed’ (Tom Cruise, Top Gun 1986)

Whatever artistic merits ‘Top Gun’ may possess, there is little doubt that it remains an iconic 80s movie, with a number of quotable lines, not least the one above. With the ‘greed is good’ business decade well and truly in full swing by 1986 there was little doubt that speed was intoxicating. Everything needed to go faster, to happen quicker, from the time it took your car to accelerate to the length of wait for… Continue

Candidates with polished resumes or Candidates without resumes BUT has experience....

Recruiter 1: "I cant present this - this resume is garbage. This is a very good client of mine and I cant afford to screw up!".

Recruiter 2: "Even though his resume is garbage, he does know your competitors and he does belong to xyz association and he does deal directly with your client's competitors and he is eager to talk to your client. What more do you want?"

You don't know how many times I ran into this situation when trying to perform recruiter splits. Why do recruiters… Continue

Help me, help you

Asking for help during a job search is a two-way street. You need to be specific about what you are looking for, and you need to make sure that the person you are requesting assistance from can actually help you. I’ve found that most people will help someone if they are able to and the request is specific.

Unfortunately many people forget the basics in a job search when asking others for…

Hands On Recruiting and what does 'Rolling up your sleeves' mean - Get out there and meet people.....

Recently, I have been looking at where I gain the most value during my time recruiting. Is it behind a phone and computer making calls to 'potential candidates' and headhunting them out of their organizations or is there some different way of doing the same thing. As recruiters, we all have limited amount of time, too many job orders to fill and not enough qualified candidates. We always battle with our clients on arranging interview times as they seem to always conflict with vacation times and… Continue

UNREALISTIC CAREER GOALS aka WHO TOLD YOU THAT?

I happened to sit down next to a table of gentlemen at lunch today who were discussing what they were going to do when they were fully vested and could take retirement. Now this was one of those groups of fellows who are in their late 50's early 60's ( and over depending on what time of day it is) that i refer to lovingly as the "brain trust" at the Donut Stop. They are up on and opinonated about: politics, religion, crime, employment, law, finance, sexuality, the internet, all wars, past…

The Recruitment Partnership; You get back, what you put in!

It’s my experience that in business many companies talk of being in “partnership” with their suppliers. However the reality is that almost all so-called partnerships are simply marketing spin. The relationships are usually very uneven, often with one overly dependent on the other; this will inevitably mean that one side is either being overcharged for their service or product or vice versa.

In the recruitment industry the best results for both parties without question comes from… Continue
