All right, so it has been way too long. 11 months to be exact. Every superhero goes into hiding. Mr. Incredible did with all of the supers, but he came back.
I have come out of hiding called work. Over the last eleven months, our team has done a major implementation of a new applicant tracking system, had 100% turnover in my department and due to the incredible efforts of our sales department our business is up which means we have been knee deep in requisitions. With the exception of…

Recently I read a great book called In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the whaleship Essex. It tells the true life story of a whaling ship from Nantucket in the 1820’s which was sunk by a rogue sperm whale. Herman Melville based his famed novel Moby Dick on this tragedy. The twenty despairing men of the Essex were over 4,000 kilometers from shore with little food and…

During September, more than 5,300 job ads were posted for Recruiters. Although a decline from August's post-recession high in demand (when more than 6,000 new jobs were advertised online), this represents not only a 10% year-over-year increase, but also 7% growth from the beginning of the year. An increase in hiring demand for Recruiters may be a good indicator that companies plan on hiring more in the coming months. Employers and staffing firms each placed about half the job ads during this…

I’ve had two experiences implementing executive recruiting systems, once at a boutique search firm and another at Lockheed Martin. In the former, we were moving from a paper-based system to a digital one. In the latter, the function was in start-up, so we had the luxury of beginning from scratch.
I learned a lot through both experiences. At the boutique firm, we…

So you have a career in the field of your dreams, and you are making a fairly good living- the bills are covered, the social life is on fire, the family situation is just as you like it at this time (subject to change: like life!). AND….You look as though there is no end in sight for the success you feel you deserve, after all the long hours, the…

Conjures up images of Cher and that song - that charted at number 1 in Australia and Norway, number 3 in the United States and number 6 in the United Kingdom.
And that music video set on the USS Missouri with Cher straddling a cannon, and wearing a fishnet body stocking…. But that’s not what I want to talk about…
I was representing a candidate to the market last week. A candidate that I thought was very strong… You know the type: a walking…

It is without a doubt one of the most inspiring stories of triumph over a life circumstance that I have heard. Tonight I went and saw an incredible movie. Dolphin Tale - see trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdpg9NsgEaI
In December 2006, in Mosquito Lagoon, Winter washed up on the beach…

Most people who become recruiters do not last. There are many reasons for that. Poor hiring decisions and inadequate training being high on the list.
But there is another key reason why so few people actually last in the hurly-burly world of agency recruiting.
It’s a frigging hard job!
So I know that sometimes you question why you do it. There are times you hate what you do. There are days you go home feeling deflated, worn-out and frankly, useless.
The…

It's no secret that the American workforce is changing. More households have two working parents now than any other time in history. Both mothers AND fathers need time off to care for sick children or attend their school events. And many of them are also taking care of their own elderly parents. Meanwhile, Millennials who grew up with cell phones and…

Two weeks ago I wrote a post on accurately measuring "Source to Hire" through your ATS & job distribution technology and received the following interesting comment from Master Burnett:
There is rarely a single source of hire in today’s hyper connected reality. Single source of application maybe.…

A career change is a life altering decision and should be properly thought through and planned. It can mean a complete transition to a new job, a new employer or a new industry. If a person chooses to change career direction, for example they have been in …

Community. It's the word in everyones lips right now. Which is always a worry. We descend into 'fads' so easily these days it seems and it would be a shame for community to end up being tarnished with the fad brush. I have long been a big fan of community - I believe it has the potential to transform organisations and shape business models, deliver exponential results…

A good friend of mine recently started out in recruitment. She's worked in sales before and is excellent at closing deals, so I knew she'd have a good chance at making a success of a career in recruitment. It seems though, that she's struggling. Not because of her ability, she's managing to get vacancies and submit candidates, but because of the work of her predecessor. The person who ran the desk before her, who is now a director within the company, seems to have annoyed and alienated some…
