Here in New York City there's one of SHRM's major chapters: HR/NY. In correspondence and on conference badges, it is typically shortened to "HRNY."
Now if you're like others, you have learned to pronounce the acronym for the Society for Human Resources Management as "sherm"; how might you pronounce "HRNY"?
Yes, HR thought leaders at their finest...

Does #TChat really hate recruiting? Frankly, I don't know. What I do know is that my original post has caused many people to voice their strong opinions one way or the other - which in a sense is what I wanted to accomplish. The #TChat team heard the opinions of an especially vocal faction and are in the process of making a few changes that in my opinion will make their product better.
So - we'll see...

What is a modern recruiter? Someone who is honest first, knowledgeable second, consistent third, humble fourth, helpful fifth, personable sixth, and resilient seventh – of course these are equally valid in other arrangements.
Too many people who call themselves recruiters don’t take pride in their craft; aren’t continuously learning; believe they have ESP-like…

[Hello RBC - Long time no see]
‘Twas the night before Christmas and somewhere online
A recruiter was puzzling over which webpage to mine
With visions of revenues and managers content
This recruiter was no ordinary Clark Kent
Dark horn-rimmed glasses covered his eyes
He was better than any of the CIA’s spies
His fingers were dancing on his silent keyboard
Looking for instances of names he could hoard
His Boolean strings would always…

The recent closure of SpamIt.com in Russia has successfully reduced global spam by 20% over the past few days. It's bad enough that spammers are shilling ED drugs - as if sexual potency were the solution to the world's ills - but I've recently seen an uptick in jobseeker spam. This is simply insidious and unconscionable because the senders…

Back on May 22, I noted that Tom Golisano, founder and billionaire owner of Paychex, decided that New York statutory environment was driving businesses out of the state. Under the now - and hopefully single term - Governor Patterson, New York is becoming a place that is unfriendly towards business; unfriendly to business means unfriendly to recruiting.
Yesterday saw an old fashioned coup up in…

Eight people who were once big earners before seeing pink
are profiled by Forbes as an indicator that anyone can reinvent themselves and become more fulfilled.
We see a Senior Vice President at Wellpoint who refused to relo from New Hampshire to Indiana - and the company acquiesced; a web development consultant who fiddles with code on his cell while the barber trims his locks;…

Involuntary part-time workers account for
"...almost one in three of all part-time workers. Almost all the new involuntary part-time workers were formerly full-time workers accepting cutbacks in hours. Part-time employment invariably rises during recessions, but...the magnitude of the rise in this recession has been unprecedented since records were first kept in the 1950s. It also suggests that the jobs numbers and unemployment rate underestimate the extent to which employers have cut costs… Continue

You're a leading recruiter, you’re someone who I want to be
Will you be my tutor, and take me on a thinking spree
You're a Thought Leader

Ann Taylor claims there aren’t any overweight – sorry, big boned - fashion conscious women anymore who can afford the company’s size 16 couture so
they’ve made a decision to stop carrying the clothes in their stores only online (
sure, women who pay $200 plus for a blouse will happily order it online without first trying it on for fit). Analysts on the other hand see an obvious strategy –…

As Sandra McCartt might say about the government pointing to all the positive signs in the economy,
"Just because a chicken has wings don't mean it can fly." Today we found out that Ken Lewis, the teetering CEO of Bank of America,
testified that Bernanke and Paulson and "...the government wanted him to keep quiet while the two sides negotiated government funding to help BofA absorb…

Food for thought...
For the past decade, a job at an investment bank has been coveted. Now the implosion of Wall Street has not only shaken a generation's ambitions, it has also unleashed them.

A few hours ago I stopped in to
PetSmart to pick up a few pet items. The total came to $12.42; I pulled $15 out my wallet, counted out 42 cents, and handed the currency to the cashier - who in the transfer, dropped one penny onto the floor. She attempted to bend over to pick it up but didn't.
I turned away for about four seconds and she handed me $2.99 in change; the receipt noted that I gave her $15.41. I took the two dollar bills in my right…

I like how
Christie's is handling the recession; they've
created a new business unit to sell corporate works of art. The rationale is that with balance sheets requiring more trips to the proverbial Home Depot, companies may be looking to sell their art. Someone at Chrtistie's sure is thinking.
Let's look at how companies and agencies have…
