Me: "Borg-Biller, how ya been? Still Borg-Billin over there at that Big-Box firm?
Borg-Biller: "Yeah, you know me. Billin, billin, billin!"
Me: "Wow, so what's your commission over there?"
Borg-Biller: "Well, I take home 40% up to $250k, 50%…

Dear Claudia,
I presented a great candidate to my client a month ago, and they extended an offer to him this week. He accepted, and then two things happened: a counter offer came from his current employer, and an unexpected third company asked him to interview next week. He really likes the sound of this third job, so has decided to play the first two employers by accepting both of their offers while he explores the new job, and then make a final decision. I can’t get him to… Continue

Malcolm Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point and Blink, was the first speaker at the May 2008 New Yorker Conference. “Stories from the near future” was the theme of the two-day conference. Albeit condensed, here are his words and my comments from his talk regarding the “challenge of hiring in the modern world.”

I am currently doing a National search to find people in obscure areas. I have their contact names but am having a hard time finding a reliable information source to supply their phone numbers. I got on Intellius and every number was a bust, Craigs list was unhelpful as well as your common 411, etc.. Has anyone used a resource that can produce reliable phone numbers/emails for people if you have a name and a state?
Thanks!

So I had this sudden realization that my blog here is geared toward professionals in the recruiting industry. While I think that's absolutely fantastic and a great way for us all to share best practices, I really want different content for my customers (clients and candidates) more geared toward their needs/wants.
To this end, I started a new blog:
http://theartofrecruiting.wordpress.com
I'm curious what everyone's opinion is about that, if you think it's…

When trying to help candidates get the best job most recruiters are prepared to delve into their career hopes and dream and help them divine a path for them to accomplish those goals. However, during just such a conversation the other day it came to me that not only this particular candidate, but most candidates, lack the fundamental knowledge to start the conversation. In fact, most don’t spend any time at all thinking about their careers.
So where are you in your career? Do you…
