I am engaged to do some strategic recruiting for a regional cpa firm that is experiencing growth, and very genuine professional and financial opportunity for aspiring tax specialists. What is the preferred method that a recruiting specialist can employ to get the attention of this typically passive group to engage in a dialogue that may very well enhance their career track?

Article Title: Job Search Tip: How to Attract a Recruiter’s Attention
Author Byline: The Medical Sales Recruiter
Author Website:
OK, so this title isn’t nearly as cool as the title of the article I want to talk about: How to Headhunt the Headhunters, by Tara Weiss from Forbes.com. But, that’s the way it goes. The article got my attention and it has some…

Hello,
I am writing an article on references for my newsletter and thought it would be fun to poll other recruiters. I would like to hear your thoughts regarding best practices for references. Specifically, how do you make sure you are legally compliant, do you have set questions you ask (i.e. behavioral, technical, etc), do you allow confidential references, do you accept letters of recommendations in place of references, how long do you keep reference data on file,…

The statistics are chilling...
In November 2008, 533,000 Americans lost their jobs, the most in 34 years, according to a Dec. 5 report from the U.S. Labor Department. Job losses this year so far are 1.91 million.
We're all busy, but does anyone have any thoughts on how recruiters may be able to assist the growing number of unemployed individuals?

The consensus suddenly is that clients are putting the brakes on hiring and job orders are shrinking. I am hearing that the client driven mantra to outside recruiters is that “the economy is terrible, we need to tighten our belts and there are a lot of good candidates out there.” Attitude is 99% of this game and if you want to see doom and gloom, that is your prerogative. However, where there is chaos there is opportunity and right now there is a tremendous amount of opportunity for great…

What do these terms mean to you?
To me they represent the data shift that we have seen over the past few years; it represents the need to share information and the need to touch as many people as possible for no real specific reason. It’s about having the feeling that you belong; the feeling that your thoughts and work are respected and needed. It’s the impact that you have on your peers and the idea that your…

2 weeks ago, I was spending time with one of my friends who has a 13 year old. The 13 year old accidentally sent a text to her mom instead of her boyfriend when we were at lunch. It was something like, "i can't wait to see you either, I miss you so much, kisses!"
Naturally, we laughed our collective a$$e$ off at that one and she was mildly embarrassed when we all texted her back, although I swore I noticed a hickey the next day on both of them.
Like this story, this…

I must say it is great to be back doing what I love and am great at. After a short almost 4 month hiatus, I am back making a difference in peoples lives again.
What is amazing is the number of phone calls I received in just the first week of employment from agencies looking to fill my positions. Isn't that why I was hired? Some agencies have particular expertise and I get the need. For others, I am less convinced.
After working the past 2+ years in the job board space, I…

The staffing agency can be advantageous for several reasons. First, temporary help through a staffing agency does not require going through the hiring process. The company does not have to set up tax forms, with hold taxes or extend any benefits to the temporary personnel. All that is done through the staffing agency. This simplifies the process a great deal…

One would have thought that in the 21st century the discourse about the role of gender in leadership would have been a story of the past. Nothing is further from the truth. In the recent U.S. presidential election, gender was used in the discourse to define effectiveness as a leader. Leadership has been traditionally defined as the ability to engage…

Is that when attractive women join, men will leave more welcoming comments than will men and women leave to all other new members.

Making Your Mark
(December 05, 2008) How many times can you say "Please keep the job postings on the job board." Maybe this would be clearer: "When you put your jobs in the blogs or the forums, you make the place less useful to the people who inhabit it".
I suppose you could say that "posting jobs anywhere but on the job board is rude and inconsiderate". You might frame it as "Anyone who doesn't take the time to understand RBC before posting risks looking like the morons…

Seth Godin, author of The Dip, recently wrote a blog post entitled, "The 90/10 rule of marketing a job." He writes, "It only takes 10% as much effort to hire someone in the bottom 90% of the class. And it takes the other 90% to find and cajole and retain the top 10%." He asks why companies looking for the top 10% don't invest the resources necessary to attract and develop them.
I have my own personal theory on this matter. First, most hiring managers lack the patience and discipline…

What’s there to be Thankful about during a recession?
For starter’s Thanksgiving is an American Holiday and it is OK to wish someone a Happy Thanksgiving regardless of their religion or race; there is nothing offensive or politically incorrect about saying Happy Thanksgiving. In fact, in the last week many people have said “Have a Happy Holiday”…
