Linkedin tries to make me feel special - and fails.

So I assume a lot of people got the "Congratulations! You're profile is among the X% most viewed on LinkedIn  email. I got it earlier this week and my natural suspicion immediately clicked in. However a bit of judicious googling shows it to be genuine...but also…

3 Mistakes That Could Make Your Jobs Page Look Like The D.M.V.

I look at a lot of jobs/careers pages.

So you can imagine my surprise when I was perusing the “Jobs” pages of the  Forbes Magazine Most Innovative Companies In The World —  and found that many of them are sub-standard.

In particular, some of these innovative companies have jobs pages that remind me of the experience I have when I visit the Department of Motor Vehicles…

4 Client Hiring Problems Contract Staffing Can Solve

In this shaky economy and ever-changing employment landscape, sometimes traditional hiring methods just don't suffice.  Increasingly, recruiters are being viewed as strategic partners who are expected to provide solutions to staffing problems, not simply fill job orders.

An MD for All Seasons

It’s obvious when you think about it – different people are good at different things. Just as a football player may not make a great manager, and vice versa, business leaders have skills relevant for different environments.

So when you are thinking about who to appoint into a critical position, it’s essential to consider not just who has preceded them but what they will be dealing with.

Those People

While checking my LinkedIn groups this morning I found this post from Seth Godin

At a recent seminar, a woman who helps run a community college stood up to ask a question.

"Well, the bad news," she said, "is that we have to let everyone in. And the truth is, many of these kids just can't be the leaders you're describing, can't make art. We need people to do manual…

What To Do When A Recruiter "Goes Dark" - Part 1

I’ve been staring at this blank page for weeks. In the past couple of months I’ve heard from two very different contacts that they’ve gotten pretty far in the recruiting process, only to have the recruiter disappear. They don’t call, they don’t write. They certainly don’t pick up the phone when it rings. Why is that?

I received an email from a job seeker I've crossed paths with both as a candidate and professional networking contact. He is smart, educated, and has a great deal of…

Common mistakes to avoid in a Lunch Interview

Job interviews are usually associated with the long tense wait in a queue, especially if there are several interviewees.
